Book Review - New Moon

So after Brent let this afternoon to head back up to Mississippi, and settled in and prepared to finish the book. For those who might not know, New Moon, is the 2nd book in the Stephanie Meyers' Twilight series. I have to admit the whole reason I've started the series to see what all the talk is about. And based upon that, I have also gotten Brent to read them as well. He just finished Twilight and hoped that I would finish New Moon before he left.... sadly that didn't happen. But with gift certificate my mom sent him as a "late" birthday present, we bought the 3rd and 4th books. Yes.... we're total nerds. Something even nerdier --- we had to pick up Brent's pre-ordered copy of Brisingr, the 3rd book in the Eragon series.

(side note - the author wrote the 1st book at 13, that to me is completely amazing. I listened to the 1st book on CD when we drove home to Illinois for Thanksgiving. The book far exceeds the movie, as it always seems to be.)

Overall, I thought New Moon was good and enjoyable. But in this book, I found Bella a little annoying at times. I found her to be so self-absorbed at times that I wanted shake her. Like the 1st book, it was pretty obvious what direction the book was taking, and what "type" of character she'd be introducing. Bella's dreams tell you, as the reader, everything you want to know. But for some reason, they don't seem to enlighten her.

To be honest, I felt the book moved rather slowly for most of the 1st half of the book, after that, it started to pick up and began to move quicker. The book ended, as good books usually do, in a perplexing situation, and I'm interested to see how Bella is able to deal with certain "issues" that are coming to the forefront.
So I am starting into the 3rd book, Eclipse. Well tomorrow that is... if I get a lunch break.
