Oh Men...

Do you ever notice how easy it if for men to make friends? Does anyone else find this completely annoying???

My hubby, Mr. Jetplane, is an extremely outgoing person, and when you meet him, you either love him or hate him. He's a jokester and some people can take it, others cannot. But that being said, he gets along great with my family and friends. And sometimes that is the problem.

Example #1

Don't they look like life long buddies?

The Jetplanes visited STL for a baseball game and then a wedding. We stayed with my cousin and her husband, J. Mr. Jetplane has hung out with him maybe 3 times. That night you would have thought they were long lost buddies. Mr. Jetplane even helped entertain J's client and his sons that we met up with before the game. His client's son was trying to become an officer in the Navy and got some very bad information from his recruiter and was led to believe some misleading information that affected his ability to get into the officer's program. However, Mr. Jetplane talked to them alot and actually got an email from J's client last week thanking him for the words of wisdom and his son is now excited again about his future.

Example #2

This weekend the Jetplanes met up with my friend Lou and her hubby R who happened to be in Destin this weekend with some friends from ATL. We hung out all day and night Sunday. Mr. Jetplane and R have hung out 3 times, well really only twice since attending Lou and R's wedding really shouldn't count. These 2 are ridiculous together, Lou and I called them Dumb and Dumber, they encourage each other to no end and well... they are just 2 peas in a pod. Unfortunately I have no pictures, but you can imagine 2 grown men, adult beverages in hand on a beach, and dancing in front of the mortified wives. There is a visual for you.

So point of the post... How come women can't make friends like guys do? I know we're catty, judgemental, and just down right bitchy sometimes, but seriously.... what's our deal?

I can completely empathize with this. That description of Mr. Jetplane could have been written about my AH, detail for detail!

I don't know what it is about us women, but at least for me, I have less acquaintances but more contact with the close friends I do have. I think that is an OK tradeoff, but it doesn't always feel like it when the AH is busy befriending the entire city.

Haha! It's so true! I think we just think about it too much, where guys don't really care!

My husband is the same way. He can become BFF with just about anybody.

This is funny, because we have the opposite situation!

I am the one that can be friends with anyone. I am immediately best friends with everyone I meet. I will treat you like I have known you forever until you give me a reason not to do so. Apparently this started at a young age, and my mom had to worry about me trying to run off with strangers.

Mr. Newlywed has about 10 friends that he has known since pre-school. Outside of that, he hangs out with old coworkers. He just isn't outgoing.

I think women are far more judgemental as well, it puts up walls and keeps us from letting people in (at least thats my idea).

This is very true! Why can't we make friends easier?

Oh I completely agree... We are becoming friends with our next door neighbors and my husband and the guy are already besties ... I love his wife but it just seems to take so much longer with girls! Ugh.

I think it's way easier for them to make friends fast. I know that even I can make friends fast with guys better than I can with girls.

This is so true for us! Nick already has a brand-new bff (a single guy) here in Vegas meanwhile I'm still working on finding some wives or other ladies I want to hang out with. We've met up with some of the other guys and their wives and know some from pilot training, but haven't really clicked with any of them yet.

I really miss our old group from Mississippi. Those ladies and I just worked! I'm definitely more of a long-term friend kind of person, most of my nearest and dearest I've known since grade school or middle school. Nick on the other hand, hardly keeps in contact with friends from home. I'm sure being female is part of it!

I hear ya, my boyfriend has the easiest time making friends but I feel like post-college its been more difficult for me....I think you nailed the problem with "catty", "judgmental", and "bitchy"! I seem to run into a lot of that lately :(

No worries, I have that same exact problem. My guy can charm anyone he meets, while I just about always manage to rub people the wrong way. What is up with that?

I am laughing because I live with the exact opposite here! My husband is ridiculously shy and sticks to his same group of friends he's had since childhood!

Me, on the other hand, everyone I know jokes and says I've never met a stranger, and it's so true! I will be best friends with anyone (well anyone not obnoxious!) I'm usually the one begging the Mister to be a bit more friendly!

I like to think that I can. I love cool other girls. But I find that so many girls are mean and catty, and I want NOTHING to do with that. Ugh. Why are girls so mean sometimes! Ew!

You and I would totally be bff in real life ;)

My husband is like that too!

I am trying to be more friendly and less standoffish when I first meet woman these days. It seems to be working :)
