Casa de Jetplane Update

Well we close on our 1st house in count'em 22 days. Yes, only 22 days away from the biggest life (financial) decision we've ever made....and I have yet to ever step foot in this bad boy...does that make me even more nervous...oh hell yeah.

That being said the builder is almost finished with making the changes we've requested and finishing the bonus room in the attic space. We are only finishing half of it and the other half is closed off and will be for storage. We may end putting another room and bathroom up there, but right now its not feasible nor required.

We will be using this bonus room as an additional living room. Our formal living room greets you right when you walk in the front door and unfortunately its just not that large. Additionally, it has one of those awful cutouts for the tv over the fireplace. This doesn't work for us for 2 reasons.

1. We have a large LCD television that is like 50 or 55" big, that will not be fitting in that hole in the wall and is just to big for the room.

2. We have a large sectional couch that will not work in that room.

So both of these are going to be going upstairs. Cross your fingers my couch fits up the stairway, its made up a stairway for my ol apartment building, so hopefully it works.

I would have loved for that to be my home office, but that's just not appropriate. We need that for living space. I've offered to let Mr. Jetplane do whatever he wants to that room if I get the rest of the house. He is still contemplating that offer, I think its a rather good one.
Here's how it shaping up so far... Its a rather large space with 2 windows for natural light. We were dark wood down on the floor to make what's in the downstairs living room.

Cross your fingers they finish soon because we have to have the appraisal and inspection done before closing.

I've been emailing our realtor she assures me that everything is on track. I pray she's right.

My old apt had a cut out over the fireplace for a TV too...If we had a TV that didn't fit in the hole, they would cover the hole with a piece of wood (?) and then hang the TV on top of it rather than putting it IN the hole. You couldn't see the wood because the TV covered it. Not if the hole is taller the TV...obv that wouldn't work if it was but it's a thought.

how exciting - congratulations. We got to watch the construction of our 2nd house (almost 3 yrs ago) and it was so fun. We have that cut-out over the fam. rm fireplace too and I put a painting there and hung the TV on another wall. :)

How annoying about that tv cutout. Those things are, in general, ridiculous. Your TV is almost always too big or too small.

I've got my fingers crossed that all of the last minute finishing things work out. I can't wait to see the finished product!

I allowed my husband to buy our house without me looking at it. What was even worse is I allowed his mother to be part of the decision. Where did we end up?? 100 yards from the in-laws.. haha can you say wonderful ?!?? Luckily in the summer there are trees that block the line of sight to our house from their living room.

It looks great! I hope it all goes as planned! My husband and I have a space upstairs that we're planning on using as our media room with a big tv and comfy couch. I think it will be so nice to have a cozy space away from the formal areas of the house.

Wow...congrats! I am sure that everything will work itself out. That being said, I would freaked out if I hadn't seen my new digs in person first (you are a brave women!)

My family's house had a built-in microwave sort of like that hole for the TV--they seemed high tech 10 or 15 years ago before we realized technology wouldn't stay the same size forever!

Can't wait to see what you do to the place! I love it that you're giving Mr. Jetplane a room – Nick gets nothing! Haha. His "office" is really our guest bedroom.

Ah I know those holes too well.. (that sounds dirty, ha ha ha) but good luck on the solution, the house looks so cute and this room looks huge! :) Mr. R is dealing with the sectional not fitting well as well in his new place. :)

A TV hole. Hmm, this is something I have never heard of before. Sounds like a real pain to me. I'm sure you'll figure out something to do with it though. Can't wait to hear more.
