Discount Diva

Hello all! First things first... My giveaway ends tonight! Get in while you still can. I'll reveal the winner this weekend.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming....I have recently made some very cute (if I do say so myself) purchases at Tar-jay... my mecca of home goods and needed closet additions... since we've moved, the nearest real mall is 45 minutes away, its as close as I'm getting.

So what have I bought you ask.... well first off, these adorable lil shoes. I have paired them with a shift and tights, as well as a dress with leggings. They add a nice pop of color to a black/white and/or gray combo that I seem to wear a lot these days.

I also purchased the following two dresses. But be forewarned these dresses are short and I'm saying that as a girl that is 5'2". I have worn them with tights and leggings. I have paired them with a black and a grey boyfriend type cardigan from Old Navy.
Finally, what is a Target run without hitting up the jewelry department. I purchased this fabulous necklace for under $20. I dream about pairing it with everything this fall and winter, a crisp, white button down and jeans or adding it to a shift dress. It automatically jumps the simple, plain outfit to the next level. Love it and for $19.99, seriously I can't resist. I had hoped to make an Old Navy run last night before Mr. Jetplane's volleyball game in this outfit (FYI this is the 1st time I was to wear leggings in public without a dress over them...It was to be monumental for me). I desperately wanted to pick up a sweater to 2 that were not available in my size on the net.Unfortunately for me (or was it a sign) my car was dead. Its still dead...sitting in the garage. Mr didn't get home until 9:30 and he has class all day today. Good thing I work from home :(

Outfit above is black legging from BR purchased on sale, white v-neck Hanes tshirt, grey boyfriend cardigan from Old Navy, grey/silver scarf Target, and Nine West Riding Boots bought at the outlet 2 years ago.

I'll be the first to admit leggings have scared me. I'm short and I was cursed with some thighs... How is everyone feeling about leggings?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway....

I Think Someone Found Out About the Crow...

And they aren't happy....
Just take a look at our backyard!Scary and freaky huh? They've been traveling in a large group around our neighborhood since yesterday morning.
But that's nothing, last week while driving home on a country highway road (since we live in BFE) with a cotton field on one side and a corn field on the other, I saw a huge, HUGE black mess all over the road. I looked like black tar spilled all cover the road and into the fields. As I got closer it was literally hundreds upon hundreds of black birds. I slowed down and eased through them and they slowly all moved in a ripple affect out of the way. Its was really weird. I was totally creeped out.

Unfortunately, Mr. Jetplane will be in class all week and its a crazy week on top of it all for him.

I'm working tomorrow and taking Thursday and Friday off. I hope to go shopping in Raleigh with my mom and planting flower bulbs in the yard...but really they just want to relax...so relax we shall.

Random Weekend Ramblings

1. Friday we attended a Brief at the Squadron to discuss what will be our lives after Mr. Jetplane completes flight school. We can stay here, go to England, or go to Idaho. We learned pro's and con's to all of the bases - QOL (Quality of Life), Geography, Flying, Deployment cycle, etc. Mr. Jetplane will get to rank his choices - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. His grades and the needs of the AF will make the decision. We'll know next spring where we are off to and then we'll decide if we're ready to start trying to have a baby or not.

2. Here are some samples of paint colors we've selected for the kitchen. I have paint swatches on a couple spots in the kitchen. I'll post one next to the kitchen cabinets later this week. I prefer the middle. The colors are Limeade, California Roll, and Green Apple.

3. This weekend we took the dogs to the vet to get their shots, got lost in the middle of nowhere because my GPS doesn't even know where we are when we're at our house (since we live in BFE)...just to find out that Mr. (my navigator in life and in the jet) took us the most round about way. We showed up 20 minutes late...FYI its only 7 miles away from the house.

4. We went and saw Couples Retreat on Saturday. It was funny...it wasn't OMG I'm going to throw up because I can't stop laughing funny...but it was funny. Now that we're married you start to think about things differently so the movie touched a cord with us. And we'll always go to Applebee's together... (topic from movie)

5. Out to the movie I sported my new Warriors In Pink scarf I blogged about early this month. *I might be giving one away on this lil blog later this week*6. The Jetplanes took their first time to Sam's Club together this weekend. We bought Gatorade, Garlic Bread, Lunch Meat, Hand Soap, Protein Drinks (Mr.), Granola Bars, Fruit, etc. On the way home Mr Jetplane turns to me and asks... "What happened to us?" Ha ha.

7. Sunday I had to return things to Target and TJMaxx. FYI- my TJMaxx isn't a Home Goods...yes please feel sorry for me. I stopped at JCP for their Friends and Family Sale. I haven't shopped inside a JCP in years. I did my office desk online, but that doesn't count. I have been looking for blue/navy pillows for our living room. JCP was having buy 1 pillow for full price and get the other for 88 cents. Plus I had 20% off coupon. The striped pillow is normally $40 and the navy velvet pillow $25. I got them both for under $30. Success!! 8. The parental units are coming tomorrow. I have to pick them up from the Raleigh airport tomorrow evening...

Happy Monday. I have a busy day in the office today thru Wednesday, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off to spend with the parents. Have a great week.

Dogs - 1 Mrs. Jetplane - 0

(Front Porch prior to yesterday) Scene: Wednesday afternoon around 4:45pm

It is cold and raining, the dogs needed to go outside and I heard my office phone ringing. I was expecting a phone call, it should only last 15 minutes. The dogs will end up going onto the backporch to get out of the rain. Plus they have some internal clock which tells them to start flipping out around 5pm because they know its time to eat.
I'm on the phone and I hear Charlie barking from the right side of the house. Nothing unusual, we have the houses to our left and our right for sale. People are constantly looking at them, workers inspecting things on the properties, etc. Yes, I'm sure our huge, white dog is a great selling feature...no matter... I hear his barking and just assume someone is next door. I continue with my call and its finished around 5:05 and I head to the kitchen. Charlie is at the back door and eager to get in the house. He is barking...no worries...he's just hungry. I get their food from the garage and open the door to the back deck. Charlie runs in and wants to eat..nothing new. I yell for Milo...he's not coming in... I yell "Time to Eat Dinner!" (FYI - He runs for the words Dinner, Food, and Treat no joke). Nothing. So I put my slippers on and go out to the porch and see the side gate is OPEN.

Mama Bear goes into a panic...its pouring down rain..I run to the front of the house...nothing...and I'm screaming... MILO! MILO! MILO! nothing. I run into the house, put on a coat, grab an umbrella, and throw Charlie's food into his bowl. I think to myself...do I get in the car? (Thoughts of the squeaky toy dog commercial are running through my head)

Then I look 3 houses down and through the rain I see a lil dog peeing on every in a yard...that's my Milo. I scream at him and he turns around like...What? Are you talking to me?

Yes I am you lil shit! I most certainly am talking to you. He then proceeds to go into the yard of the house for sale directly to our right and run up on the porch...during this time I see an older gentleman at the house standing in the driveway...he's been watching this whole episode for the past 5 minutes...did it NEVER OCCUR TO HIM that a lady who is screaming in her front yard with an umbrella and wearing slippers...might be looking for a little dog that is wandering around the neighborhood? Evidently not!

I pick up the lil pain in the ass and walk us back to our house. Letting him know what I think about him the whole way. Then I see something in the front yard that resembles a bird...but not really. Then I look up onto the porch and see a crow missing from my porch... I know Milo didn't do this...

Looks like the 2 of them had quite a party in the front yard while mama was on the phone... They both got put in timeout for awhile after this latest adventure...
Here is what's left of the crow...

FYI-Mr. Jetplane left the gate open... he has been punished and will be buying me a new crow from Michael's.

Lord help me when we have children...

The Gallery Wall is Up

I've been day dreaming about this for quite some time. I love photographs and I especially love the pictures I have recently received from my mother. They are black and white pictures of my grandmother when she was in grade school, her confirmation, and wedding to my grandfather. I also got a picture of my great grandparents wedding day with my great aunt and uncle as their maid of honor and best man. These pictures mean the WORLD to me and I am amazed at just how much my grandmother, mother, and I look alike.

I purchased all the frames from Walmart, Target, and Kmart. All were sale and came with mats. Mr. Jetplane helped a great deal in the hanging of all the pictures...with only minimal complaining.

Going PINK...the MANLY way

Anyone else loving all the pink that has taken over the NFL this month?
From the NFL website
Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society and team charities. This is an issue that has directly touched the lives of so many in the NFL family, and we are committed to helping make a difference in breast-cancer prevention.
I love all the pink and so happy to see so many of the players and coaches supporting it. Many of the players, coaches, and owners have had breast cancer touch their lives via their wives, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, etc. Plus I think its cute to see big, hulky men wear pink gloves, towels, cleats, and hats...
By the way... Go COLTS!!

PB Style on a PBR budget

I, like a lot of people, fell in love with this...

But unfortunately the Jetplanes are not made out of money and I adamantly refuse to spend a lot of money on seasonal decor. Therefore I only buy these items on sale or even better at the end of the season.

I honestly don't even want to go into thinking about how much that look would cost....its ridiculous, but it is awesome... Don't worry if you can afford it...I'm not hating the player...just the game.

So what did lil Mrs. Jetplane do? Well so glad you asked...

First of all I don't have that much space to work with. So I needed to condense the look. The pumpkins are fake ones that I bought from Michael's last year for seriously 80% off. I thought about painting the them creme last year, even bought the paint but got lazy and didn't do it.

The wicker pumpkins are from Michael's regularly $24.99 and I purchase them on sale for $19.99/pc. I purchased the crows, leaves, and straw from Michael's, as well, all for 50% off. Crows were $2.49/pc, leaves $2.99, and straw $5.99.

The lanterns were purchased from Walmart in the Lawn and Garden department. They were regularly $25.00/pc and I bought them for $10.00/pc. I placed some of the leaves in them and then used a battery operated votive in each lantern.

The black metal plant stand, I have had forever. I believe I bought it at Lowes in Lawn and Garden. I have used it in everyone of my past apartments and houses on the balcony or porch as a table. I bought it for around $10 its metal and has held up for 7 years now.

The wreath was purchased at Big Lots last fall for under $10.00.

Yesterday I told Mr. Jetplane that I was going to give our house the PB look for around 10% of the cost. He said, "Great Honey!! What's PB?"

Oh boy...you would think he would have learned by know. He likes the look except he thinks the crows are creepy. I think that's why I like them. They had owls too, but they were alittle more expensive, and I'm a tight ass, so they didn't get purchased. Maybe if they go on 75-80% off, I'll pick up an owl or two and some of the larger crows.

So there you go, Casa de Jetplane Fall outdoor decor. I have more home improvement posts coming this week and potentially a giveaway... stay tuned.

Pug Friday - All Dressed Up Edition 1

Good Morning to all and a very happy Pug Friday. As promised for the next few weeks we'll be enjoying pictures from my readers of their puggies dressed up in their Halloween finest. I don't know what it is about dogs (especially pugs) being dressed up that just melts my cold dark heart. Who's with me??

Unfortunately, Milo, my own personal lil hunk of pug lovin HATES, DETESTS, DOWN RIGHT LOATHES being dressed up in clothes. I did wrangle a spiderman costume on him last year and I think it maybe a repeat performance...as long as the lil chunker still fits into it.

Now without further ado...for your Pug Friday enjoyment...I bring you these 2 cutie pies.

First we have Ms. Sophia from Bella Serenity. Isn't she adorable? And here we have Mr. Paulie from on the Rhoads of Life. You may recognize Paulie, he was a finalist in our Pugapalooza earlier this year.
Aren't their expressions priceless? This is the look I get from Milo when I dress him up...he's thinking "Seriously Mom?"
Oh but you just can't yourself...they are too cute for words.
Thank you all for sending in the pics, I am getting some great ones. Keep them coming to leavingandloving@gmail.com
Happy Pug Friday All!!

Support the Cause...and be CUTE at the same time

I will be completely honest, I go out of my way to purchase items that support charity organizations and specifically breast cancer awareness. I recently purchased tulip bulbs at Walmart ($5/back) due to a portion of the sale going to Breast Cancer Awareness.

But sometimes you want to be able to 'wear' your support and still be cute, right? Well here are a couple of items that I have my eye on.

Top 3 can be found on found here at the Susan G Komen site. The tank is New Balance.

And below is a scarf that I HAVE to have from Warriors in Pink via Ford Motor. I have purchased several items from Warriors in Pink for myself and my mother.

The scarf is $38.00 and can be found here.

The 2009 scarf is woven thread by thread to achieve a richly layered look of custom-dyed yarns that highlight the Warriors in Pink® symbols. Versatile for any season and multicolored to go with many soft colors in your wardrobe. Dry clean only.100% of net proceeds ($30.50 each) goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Have you seen any great items... share the wealth...it all goes to a great cause.

Oh Baby...

This is a post about babies... NO! I repeat NO! The Jetplanes aren't pregnant but it sure feels like everyone else is.

And just to make myself clear.... I am over the moon happy for them. But its still a weird conversation, because as I've stated before, I'm still a little immature about the situation (even though I am 29 yrs old). And I still feel like in some ways we aren't old enough to start having babies yet...even though I totally know that we are. I never said I was rational in my thought process about this...

Its just crazy because we've went through years of people NOT wanting to get pregnant and now you are in a time where people are wanting/trying to get pregnant.

Here's how the convo went down...

Lou: "I'm pregnant!!"
Me: "OMG! Really! Seriously! I'm so... wait are we excited? We are excited, right?"
Lou: "Yes! We're happy! It wasn't planned but we're happy!"
Me: "Great! Because I'm totally crying over here! I'm so happy for you guys!"

Its still strange because I feel like, even though we've all been out of college for going on 7 years now...wow 7 years... I still feel like we're those young college girls in our black minis, backless shirts, and knee high black boots...going out hitting the town, doing shots, and dancing to techno music until 5 in the morning...

But (un)fortunately we are not... Our alcohol tolerance has decreased and our skirt lengths have increased but our love for one another has always remained the same.

Now...when are the Jetplanes going to have a baby? Not for some time...

Quite a nice lil weekend...

The Jetplanes had a great weekend that went by WAY too fast.

1. Friday we went to a party thrown by a pilot in Mr.'s class. All of the students were in attendance, I was the only girl there... well there were 2 girls if you count her.

2. Added a lil Fall decor to Casa de Jetplane

Found the lanterns on clearance at Walmart for $10.00 in the Garden area. Sorry the styrofoam is still in them. Here is our mantle and the new addition to the family...placed in the TV nook (aka shrine to TV). A placed a metallic pumpkin and squash I bought at Hobby Lobby last year on to 2 candle holders I've had forever (Big Lots find).

3. I'm planning on adding a liner to the back of my bookcases in the office, thoughts? Its wrapping paper from Michael's.

4. We saw Zombie Land on Saturday afternoon. OMG its gross and hilarious all at the same time. It was very much a dark comedy... which is just how I like it. Some may say we have a sick sense of humor...but oh well. All I have to say is stripper zombie with boobie tassels...and a wonderful cameo...which I will not share...

5. Last night we attended an oyster bake hosted by a committee that supports the military community here. It was wonderful. The house it was held at was amazing... I feel truly blessed to be in a town that supports their military so warmly. We met some wonderful local business owners and got the opportunity to get to know Mr.'s classmates alittle better. I ate raw oysters for the 1st time...I put a lot of cocktail sauce on them so I can't tell you if I really like them or not. But the shrimp...oh the shrimp...was divine...

Good ol Southern Hospitality. I met the wives of all the commanders in the training wing and they couldn't have been nicer. The fighter community is really embracing us all and I feel really grateful for that. This is my attire for the night...sorry by bathroom was a mess.

Hopefully he didn't bring any friends....

We have a mouse in our house. I thought I saw him early Saturday morning while I was sitting in the living room. I saw something, a small dark shadow out of the corner of my eye, scurry across the kitchen floor. I told Mr. Jetplane, who was still asleep, and he didn't believe me.

So the entire day and night goes on without incident. I am sitting in the living room, cozy and comfy, in my leather chair playing on the computer and watching Inside the NFL and I a see a lil mouse run in front of the fireplace and into the closet. My ever close watch dogs (Milo & Charlie) are passed out on the couch, snoring, and not paying attention at all.

I run upstairs to tell Mr. Jetplane...we have a mouse... I knew I wasn't making this up. He then asks me what do I want him to do about it.... Catch the damn thing!

We tried and were unsuccessful. (I may have been standing onto of the coffee table) The dogs are deathly afraid of the broom for some reason so they were not a help at all. They ran into the bedroom and hid. The mouse is still in this house and looks like I'm going to be buying some traps today.

I haven't had a mouse in my house since I lived with my parents in the country...and then we had a cat... I guess I have found the one bad thing about living in BFE surrounded by tobacco, wheat, cotton, and corn fields...

Today is...

The start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As some of you know it has touched my family twice, first my maternal grandmother and last year my mother. Unfornately my grandmother passed away while I was in high school but, I'm happy to say that my mother is now cancer free. She will be having her reconstructive surgery in November.

I hope to share important information about bresat cancer and a little more about our story over the next month.
