Seriously People...he's a pug

So we had noticed before Christmas that the For Sale sign on the house next door had been removed. Then during the time between Christmas and New Year we saw a car parked there, but NEVER saw people. Well yesterday all that changed when we noticed a young couple and their child moving in.

Mr. Jetplane was in the front yard playing catch with both of the dogs and when he saw them, he decided to put Charlie up (since well he's a big ass dog, and some people are scared of him) and I see Milo take off next door to say hi. He runs up on the porch and is greeted with full on screams of terror...by all 3 of them...

The little boy (and I mean probably atleast 6 yrs old) screams at the top of his lungs and is bawling hysterically. I run over and grab Milo assure them that he's not dangerous, he won't bite, and he just wanted to meet you all. He's very friendly and really just wanted to play with you.

The mother said.."I thought he wanted to run into our house.."

To that I replied, "Well to be completely honest, he probably did want to. He doesn't know a stranger and would be happy to run in and sit on the couch with you and watch tv. He did do that to our old neighbors before."

So Mr. Jetplane ran over once he heard the screams, we introduced ourselves, re-assured them about 50x Milo was safe, and I waited till they could bring the boy out of hiding from the house so he could meet Milo.

We walked back to our house and Mr. Jetplane said, "Can't believe that lil boy was scared of Milo." I said, "Oh no honey... ALL 3 we're freaking scared to DEATH of Milo. Just wait to they see Charlie!"

Now I understand that a lot of people confuse Milo's breathing for growling so they are concerned, but seriously people, when you scream and jump at a dog, they either get excited or nervous which makes the situation even worse. Its pretty obvious these people have never had a dog or been around dogs before...ugh...

Welcome to the neighborhood!!!

I have a coworker who's terrified of dogs, and it irritates me b/c it's one of the most irrational fears in my opinion. This person has never been attacked by a dog, they just never spent time around them in their childhood and I'm sure their parents told them dogs are scary and will bite you. The whole thing is just silly! Most dogs will be cool if you are cool. Otherwise, your anxiety makes them anxious!
Good luck with the new neighbors!

That is just too funny. My son used to have a pug, honestly did they think he was going to eat them? haha
It will be interesting to what they think of the other dog he might eat them whole.

Good Luck with them hopefully they turn out to be great neighbors.

I can't believe that all three of them screamed! My two dogs are medium size dogs (45 and 65 pounds) and kids often run after the dogs, rather than the other way around. And, really, screaming when a dog is near you is only going to make matters worse! Good luck with your new neighbors...your dogs really are very cute!

And Milo weighs all of what..... 10 or 12 lbs?? That is freaking hilarious!! Now if the other had gone barking & running at them, I'd understand a bit more.

Oh my... they wouldn't want to be OUR neighbors! We have three large dogs... two Greyhounds and a Great Pyrenees. The Pyr is 125 pounds. That's 285lbs of dog we have total. LOL

Every single dog in the neighborhood is afraid of our Pug, I think it is his snorting, but is is pretty funny to watch a 120 pound dog run away from our little Pug.

Honestly, I probably would have done the same. I had a dog when I was little, but that doesn't make me any less scared. Some people are just terrified of dogs. To me, I get upset when people allow their dogs to come up to me. It's my space. Ya know? (And I know, as everyone says, "my dog wouldn't hurt anyone." But that's just it, it might. I don't like dogs, even "yours.")

Grits- I'm sure it may seem irrational and silly to you, but I am sure you fears would seem the same way to others. I'm not afraid of spiders or snakes or heights, and I don't understand how others would be, but I don't call them silly.

Yeah, I don't understand 'non-dog' people.

At Halloween, a little girl came to our house, saw Jagger in my arms and screamed and ran crying. Her mom was mad at me. A) it's my freaking house and you brought her here. B) What the heck did you expect on Halloween? C) He's 9lbs and puffy like a freaking teddy bear. Really? You think he's scary? I assumed that with a reaction like that she just had to have a bad story to go with it.

But with you... the whole family? Yeah, that's irritating.

Yeah, because Milo is abso-freaking-lutely terrifying.

Pugs have the weakest jaws in the world. And those teeth? Only good for kibble. Maybe they were concerned he would sit on their kids and suffocate them? :) Oh wait, maybe that is just my little chunky monkey!

I hope that they grow to really like Milo. You need to tell us when they meet Charlie! I bet that's an even better story. Heeheehee

rofl That is the funniest thing I've heard all day! I'd understand a bit about your other dog because he's big but Milo? Granted I understand the fear of dogs, I was bit by a chow as a child. But ALL of them screaming over Milo is pretty comical.

Yeah, people who don't know how to act around dogs can really be irritating. Sometimes I wonder if its not the fact that they don't have experience and that they're just plain dumb. Because I mean really, there is a difference between the two behaviors that is clear as day.

Wow. I had no idea that people were so annoyed by people that are scared of dogs.

I am typically scared of dogs. If a random dog approaches me and I don't see anyone else around I'm probably going to have an inner freak-out session (no screaming though)! However, I am fine with most of my friends dogs once I've been around them a little bit.

In general though, I am scared of dogs. If I'm in a park I don't want someone's dog to run up to me and invade my space. It just bugs me. I understand that most people with dogs are used to having their dog invade their space, but that doesn't mean I want your dog in my space. I just don't like it.

I have never been attacked by a dog. My parent's didn't have dogs, but my grandparents did. I've just always been afraid of them.

Oh goodness, I can relate. I have a mini daschsund and I've seen people get nervous around her. I mean, what is she going to do, cuddle you to death? I'll never understand it.

My neighbor is crazy scared of our labradoodle. She's under 50lbs, and she's a ball of LOVE. But she has a really big bark and her "smile" shows off her teeth. But she's a lab. And people know we have an 8lb dog that she hasn't hurt yet. It's strange to me when people don't know how to act around dogs, I guess since I've grown up with them.

HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN YOUR BLOG BEFORE!?!?!?

I just went through a ton of your pug fridays. I have 3 pugs (well, 2 pugs one bugg) and have a blog for them, as well as a wedding blog (Miss Pug's pawfect wedding) so I think I will be obsessed with your blog! So glad to start following you!!!!

And on this note, when my family sold our house once, our pug Oliver jumped up (you know like a pug does, paws on your leg waiting to be pet) on the buyer's adult son, and he was all "EWWW GET HIM OFF ME" and he and his mom freaked out. We were selling the house for sad reasons (my dad died) and so I was sure this was an omen that we shouldn't sell our house to them. My mom assured me their money was the same as pug-lovers' money, but still, I spit when I drive by that house. WHO DOESN'T LIKE PUGS?!
