What's Happening....

Well the Jetplanes have been quite busy over the past couple of weeks. I may have mentioned that Mr. Jetplane was in Panama City for work and I flew to Pensacola for work as well. We met up for my holiday party and even squeezed in a photo shoot with Oeil Photography. Michelle is a wonderful photographer, fellow milwife, and based in Penscola. We have worked with her a couple of times over the years and highly recommend her.

The photos were all taken at the Naval Aviation Museum on NAS Pensacola. Its a great museum and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon...oh and its free admission. They recently opened another wing of the museum and I think Mr. Jetplane might have been more interested in that, than the photo shoot. Here are a couple pictures from the shoot.

On Saturday Mr. Jetplane had his squadron holiday party in Boise. We had a wonderful time, unfortunately I have no pictures of us standing... and I really liked my dress so that's super annoying.

And the award for the biggest time suck of our lives right now goes to our guest bathroom. Mr. Jetplane decided to demo the entire bathroom 2 days before we left for Hawaii.
Yeah we left for a week with our bathroom like this...Charlie was totally confused.

Here are a few of the selections for the new bathroom. The mosaic will be used as an accent in the shower surround. We chose a large subway (6x8) subway tile for the shower as well. And that's our new tub. It feels like porcelain but its not, trust me I helped put that sucker into place. Current state of the bathroom...with a the new light. Bead board is going up, hence the walls only partially painted.

We bought the vanity this weekend and hope to get some of the tile work done before heading home for the holidays...wish us luck :)

Pug Friday

Hello to all my lovely readers. Its been a very busy week around these parts. Sorry for no Pug Friday last week, but I was in Pensacola for work and unable to blog.

This Pug Friday is extra special and Milo has something very important to share, right? He's very excited (if you can't tell) to let you all know about http://www.pugsinthekitchen.com/. Pugs in the Kitchen is a joint venture created by 3 Indianapolis area bloggers, good friends, and most importantly pug lovers, The Pugs Strike Back, Tails from Nobletucky, and The Pug Posse.

These 3 lovely bloggers started baking treats as a way to help raise money for Kentuckian Pug Rescue. After baking for a few events, they thought about it and decided that it might be fun to start their own business selling homemade dog treats, alas Pugs in the Kitchen was born.

Pugs in the Kitchen prides itself on baking quality dog treats. If a customer has a dog with an allergy, they encourage them to contact them and they will do their best to find their dog a suitable treat to fit their needs. They offer a small selection of dog toys and as well as a wide selection of dog collar charms. They will ship anywhere in the U.S. for a flat rate of $5.00. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact them at info@pugsinthekitchen.com.

Pugs in the Kitchen is currently hosting a giveaway for a free gift basket. The contest ends at midnight on Dec. 18th, so enter now.

A Date that will live in Infamy

70 years ago today the attack on Pearl Harbor happened.

We were lucky enough to visit Pearl Harbor when we were in Hawaii last month. Its something that I had to see. Its a beautiful monument and due to my husband's insane thirst for military knowledge he knew alot about everything.

I highly suggest you go visit the memorial. Its free and quite moving. First you watch a brief yet informative movie about the attack. I will freely admit I cried. I don't know if its the fact that this place is where the actual event occurred or the fact that I was holding the hand of my recently deployed husband during the film but I cried.

You then take a short boat ride to the memorial. Its a beautiful memorial dedicated to those that were lost that horrible day. The ship underneath you is their tomb. Hundreds of men died in the very stop you are standing.

I can't imagine the fear and shock that was occurring that afternoon in such a beautiful and serene location. It was paradise just earlier in the day and then all hell broke loose.

For those of you that aren't aware of what happened on this day 70 years ago...

The area was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes in 2 different waves, launched from 6 aircraft carriers. All 8 U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with 4 being sunk. All but 2 of the 8 were actually raised, repaired, and returned to service later in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and 1 minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 Americans ere killed, and 1,282 wounded. Japanese losses were light 29 aircraft, 5 subs lost, and 65 servicemen killed or wounded. 1 Japanese sailor was captured.

Today we honor those we lost that fateful day.

Remember Pearl Harbor.

Hawaiian Vacay Post 1

Hello all... Did you all enjoy a wonderful weekend? Mine was okay, but nothing too great. Mr is in Florida enjoying the beach and it snowed here on Sunday...yes color me all kinds of jealous. But we'll be meeting up in Florida later this week, so I guess it'll be ok.

Well as promised I need to post about our lovely and much needed vacay to Hawaii. This was my first time in Hawaii, it was Mr. Jetplane's 2nd. He had been there a number of years ago to visit a high school friend that was going to school in Hawaii.

The Jetplanes flew into Hololulu and stayed at Hale Koa, which is a military resort. Its a nice hotel, but more importantly you get a heck of a deal. Its not the Ritz but we got a full ocean view on the beach, so we're not complaining.

We landed around 4pm the 1st day and checked in around 5pm. I was starving. We grabbed a bite to eat at the bar and had a drink or 2. Before you knew it we were about ready to pass out. We'd been up since 4am and we're ready to hit the hay.

The next morning we were up bright and early...that time change makes you wake up at like 6am there....well atleast it does to me.

We were ready to hit the beach for few hours before heading up to the North Shore. We have friends in the Coast Guard that have been lucky enough to be stationed in Hawaii for 8 years or so. We met when he was in Penscola for several weeks for a class. He happened to be a friend of a friend that went through OTS with Mr. Jetplane. When we met we were all just boyfriend/girlfriend combos....fast forward 5+ years and they are married with 2 adorable lil girls...and the Jetplanes are through flight school and have survived their 1st deployment and 3 moves.

They are an adorable couple and they welcomed us into their home on Sunset Beach for 2 nights. We had a wonderful time exploring the North Shore and all it has to offer.

Here are Mr Jetplane and our friend heading out to the beach from the house... pretty sure you can see who's the surfer. They will EXTREMELY close to the beach.

You take a short little walk through this and guess what's down that small little hill...This amazing beach...Sunset Beach...which is a famous surfing spot in the North Shore. Its also less than a mile up the road from the Pipeline yet another famous surfing spot. Mr. Jetplane tried to get some free surfing lessons...he needs a lot more :) Up and down the beach there are amazing surf houses, some vacation rentals and the biggest houses are owned by the surf companies. Our friends rent a floor of the house they live in from a famous, big wave surfer in Hawaii, he was a wonderfully nice guy. He's going to let us rent a room from him next time we're there for $80 bucks a night (friend rate). Yes we're already talking next time :)

A couple of houses down there was this amazing tree house. Mr loved it. Some surfer rents that per week for a few hundred dollars. Here is Mr. Jetplane with their youngest lil girl. Isn't that adorable :) He loved playing with their 2 little girls. He's quite good at Barbies and discussed the movie Tangled with the oldest daughter at length for over 45 minutes...love that man.

Alot more to come...sorry for a lack of pictures in this post. My laptop + blogger =no likey right now. It took 2 hours to just upload these pictures :( Hope to get more to you soon...

The Jetplanes visited Pearl Harbor as well and it was quite moving. I am hoping to provide you with a post tomorrow in honor of the 70th anniversary which is tomorrow.

*apologies for misspellings Blogger spellcheck isn't working either

Pug Friday - Its Beginning to Look alot like Christmas

Happy Pug Friday!

How is it already December 2? It doesn't even seem possible. Milo just wanted to let you all know that the holiday decor is up at the Jetplanes' house and he is really excited...can't you tell?

He's more like..."Mama, why the hell am I sitting on this pouf?"

Here's to a great weekend.

We had quite a busy weekend. I have a lot share with you and I promise to make good on it. I just downloaded all our pictures but I haven't gotten to my luggage yet. Anyone else hate unpacking as much as me.

I had to drop Mr off at base this morning at 0530. He's TDY in Florida for 2 weeks...I know he did just get home and we're already saying our goodbyes again...

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone... I hope this day is filled with love and laughter and of course mounds of delicious food.

I feel this year I have so much to be thankful for. Its been a tough year for the Jetplanes and we've made it through. I am so thankful to have my loving family and friends and forever thankful that my husband came home safe and sound after 7 long months of deployment.

I am thankful for my job and our ability to keep a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. I am thankful for the recent vacation to Hawaii that we just enjoyed and the quality time that we got to spend together.

I am thankful for our health and that my mother remains cancer free.

I am thankful for our fur babies and that after "several" medical issues while Mr. was deployed they are still with us and add such joy to my life.

I am thankful for the wonderful friends we have made since joining the military and in particular the amazing women that I have come to call my friends. They have lifted me up in my times of need and have been an unbelievable support system.

I am thankful for so much today and everyday.

Have a wonderful holiday and safe travels to all...

XOXO

Aloha...

We're back...we took a red eye home this morning and I'm already back at work... I'm exhausted but refreshed... so happy to see my boys.

Can't wait to share some photos and details from the trip. It was amazing just to get to spend some QT with the Mr, we definitely needed it. Too bad he's leaving for 2 weeks after Thanksgiving...such is the life in an operational flying squadron... not even home 2 months and already gone on a TDY.

Gonna go grocery shopping, watch some of our DVR and then head to bed...this lil lady is dragging.

You're gonna have to excuse me...

But me and the Mr are heading to Hawaii....

ALOHA!!!!

Be back in a few...hopefully tan, happy, and relaxed :)

Pug Friday - Happy Veterans Day

Hello all... my lil Milo wanted to let you know today is a very important day...its Veterans Day. He wanted you to know that he's 1 very proud pug to have a daddy like Mr. Jetplane.

He's also happy that daddy has the day off and is hanging out with him all day (and may have let them sleep in a little).

Less than 1% of Americans serve in uniform and I'm honored to call 1 of those brave men and women my husband. Even though I hated every second of the 7 months we were apart this year while he was deployed, I still felt pride in every single one of them.

Take some time today to thank a Veteran, they deserve it!

I know I'm gonna take some time and love on mine today :)

Here's where I need your help...

Hello one and all that read this lil ol bloggie of mine....

As some may know, Mr. Jetplane bought me a nice, new camera for my birthday this year. I've started trying to learn this new fangled contraption and I'm really enjoying it. This lil man got plenty of work in over our recent homecomings and I have since volunteered to be the squadron photographer for all (or most) of the events that we host/attend.

So here's where you come in...what else do I need...what do you suggest...

I have a Canon Rebel T1i EOS.

Christmas is coming up and I plan on asking for things associated with the camera. I need editing software - what software is the best (not the most expensive). I need a light thingy (yes that's technical for you) that attaches to the top of the camera. What other lens do you suggest?

Apologies if I sound like a total idiot...but I kinda am when it comes to all this. I have been looking up things online but I thought I would ask for guidance from the all-knowing Internet. I know there are plenty of budding photographers out there...can you help a sista out :)

Thank you!

UPDATE: Thank you for the help. I should say that I do have the EFS 18-55 lens. I thought that came with my camera standard, but I guess I am wrong.

Pug Friday

Hello all! Its starting to get cold around these parts....brrrr. We might get snow this weekend even.

Time to get snuggling with my favorite boys, which obviously includes my lil hunk of puggie loving, Milo.

shh...don't tell Mr. Jetplane he's on the top of the couch...

P.S. I just got an IPhone last weekend, now that Sprint has them :) So I've been trying to figure it all out. Any suggestions for apps? Can someone tell me what Hey Tell is all about ?

Happy Pug Friday!

Happy Halloween

Hello and Happy Halloween Everyone!

We had a wonderful weekend full of fun. It included a Halloween party on Saturday night. Sorry I don't really have many pictures to share.

Here is one of Mr. Jetplane in his full on Elvis glory. Side note that was my costume about 5 years ago while we were still in Indy. We have kept it and he has recycled it for various functions. Sadly it saw its demise on Sunday morning. It was disgusting and he tossed it in the trash. RIP- ELVIS costume you will be missed!

And here I am in my full on (perhaps drunk) pirate costume....

Oh yeah I have wondrous skills with my blackberry camera.

We had a great time out with our friends. But I can confess, waking up in a pirate costume and tights on a couch with a serious hangover is not as glamorous as one would think...

And as a reward for sticking through this horrid pieced together post thought I would share with you the following....

Happy Halloween!

Pug Friday - Halloween Edition

You know I love a good pug dressed up in a costume...right? I mean come on, who doesn't...right?

I'm going to apologize in advance for not providing a link to where I found this lil guy. I have no idea but I remember seeing it and having to save it. It is just too cute for words....

I hope this 80s movie reference isn't lost on some of you...because this is FUNNY!!! This puggie is making MJ Fox proud!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone...stay safe and have fun. I'm still trying to figure out a costume :(

the SKINNY on WW

So I'm going to lay the cold hard truth on you...I have lost weight on Weight Watchers. Has it been as much as I want...NO! Do I count my points like I'm suppose to every week...NO! Am I working out as much as I should...NO!

Good news is I lost 1.2 lbs this week...which is great considering since Mr. has been home the past 3 weighins I had gained a total 1.2lbs. So I have lost everything I've gained back since he's gotten home. 1.2 lbs is really good for me considering I'm only 5'2". And the weight seems to drop in .2 or .4 increments :(

I have more to go and its annoying that it doesn't come off as quickly as it goes on. I know a lot of that is my own fault. But that being said, I don't eat badly. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. I try to not consume empty calories. I really think I just need to get working out more and it will come off.

That's where Mr. Jetplane comes in. We've been hitting the gym on the weekends together. I just need to kick it into gear during the week.

I saw this incredibly funny cartoon and had to share it.

Off to make a yummy dinner from my favorite WW friendly recipe site Skinny Taste :)

Ask and You Shall Receive

Sorry this post has taken so long. I still don't have all the pictures from our homecoming. Obviously I didn't take them, so retrieving them when we all go our separate ways for 2 weeks is tough.

The day started off early. I couldn't sleep, the excitement had the best of me. Mr. Jetplane and a group of 7 others were flying into the airport. They had been delayed getting into country at the beginning of the deployment so they had to stay longer. They flew commercial home so we had a known time they would be arriving.

This is me driving to go pick up my man. I couldn't get there fast enough.

Mr's call sign is Contra (Constantly Transmitting aka never shuts up). I thought it was funnier to make a lil sign like a limo driver picking up someone.

Here are a few of the ladies that made it through the deployment with me. Our squadron color is red.

The wait is intense. Luckily we got through security in time, considering the flight landed about 15 minutes early. A couple of the families didn't make it down to the gate in time.

And here is it...a hug and a kiss 7 months in the making.
I honestly didn't want to let him go.

In true Mr. Jetplane fashion the first thing he says after the hug and kiss is...."Let's eat lunch...I'm starving! Where we going?"

The picture above is my reaction to the question.

We walked back from the gate to a large group from our squadron....hooting and hollering and waving signs. It was wonderful and I started crying. We had made it through. We had made it through.

It was a glorious day! So happy to have my man home. God bless all those who serve this great country. Godspeed to the squadron that replaced ours.

Tbolts Rule!

not a moment too soon...

In less than a month we will be here. I can't wait...

But cue the panic that I will be in a bathing suit in just a few weeks.

Hello all...This Pug Friday is brought to you by my favorite lil puggie in the world, my puggie Milo. Isn't he just the cutest, I know I'm a bit partial.

Have a wonderful weekend :)

Thursday, October 13, 2011

well...hello there

Sorry folks having a deployed husband home sure takes up a lot of your time...but in a really good way :)

Blogging and tweeting just don't seem to be top priority. I promise to share more pictures of our homecoming. In the mean time, this cartoon has been making its way on Facebook and its too good not to share.

He's HOME!!

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Today is the DAY

207 days ago I sent the love of my life to war. It was a cold, dark, windy night and I watched my husband take off and fly away to the other side of the world.

He flew over 100 missions and only had a handful of days off. I have some idea of what he's been doing, but I have no idea what he's been through. I pray for guidance on this next journey we are taking, trying to do our best at reintegrating our lives back together.

Today he is coming home to me. Today my heart will be whole again.

My cup runneth over...

Thank you all for your kind words and support during this time. It means more than you'll ever know. I continue to pray for the squadron that is replaced Mr. Jetplane's and all those currently deployed. God Bless and Godspeed.
