What's Happening....

Well the Jetplanes have been quite busy over the past couple of weeks. I may have mentioned that Mr. Jetplane was in Panama City for work and I flew to Pensacola for work as well. We met up for my holiday party and even squeezed in a photo shoot with Oeil Photography. Michelle is a wonderful photographer, fellow milwife, and based in Penscola. We have worked with her a couple of times over the years and highly recommend her.

The photos were all taken at the Naval Aviation Museum on NAS Pensacola. Its a great museum and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon...oh and its free admission. They recently opened another wing of the museum and I think Mr. Jetplane might have been more interested in that, than the photo shoot. Here are a couple pictures from the shoot.

On Saturday Mr. Jetplane had his squadron holiday party in Boise. We had a wonderful time, unfortunately I have no pictures of us standing... and I really liked my dress so that's super annoying.

And the award for the biggest time suck of our lives right now goes to our guest bathroom. Mr. Jetplane decided to demo the entire bathroom 2 days before we left for Hawaii.
Yeah we left for a week with our bathroom like this...Charlie was totally confused.

Here are a few of the selections for the new bathroom. The mosaic will be used as an accent in the shower surround. We chose a large subway (6x8) subway tile for the shower as well. And that's our new tub. It feels like porcelain but its not, trust me I helped put that sucker into place. Current state of the bathroom...with a the new light. Bead board is going up, hence the walls only partially painted.

We bought the vanity this weekend and hope to get some of the tile work done before heading home for the holidays...wish us luck :)

Scenes from this past weekend

Its Monday folks...yeah that's just about as awesome as it sounds.

I don't know about you but I had a great weekend, I was sad to see it go.

Friday we have a ladies night with the squadron wives group. We had a lovely light dinner at a local nursery where they also gave us a demo on container planting. They also happily answered loads of questions about gardening.

Saturday I headed up to Boise. A fellow wife and I hit up a free concert in town. We had the pleasure of enjoying the sounds of these 2. We had a great time, even though it was warm and there is about zero tree cover in the area. It was a free concert and people watching was more interesting than the music.

Oh, let me add that I caught this lil gem while we were looking for parking. I couldn't help myself.

Sunday afternoon it got HOT, we're talking supposedly 103. But the wonderful thing about the weather out here is that there is no humidity. I decided to bust out the $10 Walmart special kiddie pool for the back yard. I finished the Help and the dogs enjoyed taking a dip as well. I apologize for the paleness that is me. I swear this is the palest I've ever been in my whole life at this point of the summer...I guess that's what Idaho does to you.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

On a more important note...I took Milo to the vet on Friday. I discovered a hard lump on his leg. The vet did a needle biopsy. It is not a tumor, but we don't quite know what it is yet. It was sent onto a pathology and I hope to know more by Tuesday or Wednesday. Milo is in wonderful spirits and he doesn't seem to feel any pain or favor one leg over the other. But I'm praying hard for my lil hunk of puggie loving. He turned 8 this month. My little old man...

Well stick around this week. I hope to be a lot better blogger.

xoxo

What's Good in the Hood

Well I'd like to tell you that the Jetplanes had a relaxing weekend snuggling my the fire (we finally figured out how to use our gas fireplace) and watching the Colts beat the Jags...but sadly I cannot.

Friday we high tailed it up to Boise to pick up our final interior doors for the house. The linen closet door the smallest and the most expensive, had to be custom ordered...BOO. The pantry door, thank goodness, was stock. We also purchased the baseboards for the living room, family room, kitchen, and hallway. We purchased contractor packs, they aren't the glamorously tall and detailed baseboards we originally wanted but hey...things add up so somethings are sacrificed. I am loving my new appliances though:)

After that we met up with a couple from our squadron and ate all you can eat sushi at a new sushi place. Since they just opened (without a liquor license yet) we headed over to Cheesecake factory for drinks and of course desert, yeah I'm a fat ass so what.

Saturday morning bright and early we got up and hung the doors. Be hold all new doors (minus the closet doors on the side those are for the laundry area and our utility room)We then headed back up to Boise to enjoy the NIU v Fresno State Bowl game. Mr Jetplane is an NIU alum and I got us 1/2 off tickets on Groupon. Mr had a couple of frat brothers in town as well so we partied it up at the NIU alum reception and then had great seats for the game. We got to watch NIU beat up on Fresno, much to the surprise and anger of a couple Boise State fans that were chatting it up around us. We were rolling deep with some Chicago Southsiders so I'm not sure they knew what could happen if they kept running their mouths.... oh well.

We had a great time. So much fun that we ended up skipping our squadron Holiday party.
Hello Smurf Turf!!! I still find it crazy to see mountains in the background. I'm not used to it yet.

After the win we got on the field and them BAM it started crazy snowing!!! It was awesome!

Sunday morning I awoke to the sound of rushing water and then drip, drip, drip. Our roof is leaking...our NEW ROOF. The NEW ROOF that we had put on in order for us to purchase the house. It was dropping water right by Milo's bed and he was freaked out and lil pissed off. Needless to say, we are not happy and the roofer was out here a couple of months ago to fix the problem...obviously its not fixed....mmmm.

Mr decided to open up the ceiling...oh joy! I refused to sleep in there last night so we're kickin it in the guest bedroom. Thank God our houseguest left on Thursday...I washed the sheets and threw away the pillows he'd been sleepin on. Mr didn't want to sleep on them either.

Anyway - the rest of yesterday Mr. measured and cut all the baseboards. (Yeah trim...we've lived without since August). We'll start installing tonight. We installed the chair rail for the kitchen bead board yesterday. Its crazy how different the house is looking. Its been a lot of work, and we still have more to go, but its really been a rewarding experience seeing the changes the house is making.

Next on the list - PAINTING, we have more coats of white for the stairway, trim, bead board, new doors, and then onto the kitchen cabinets....

We are trying to get as much done as possible before Mr deploys in 2011. Its coming up and no matter what I can't wish it away. When he gets back from the desert we will be totally renovating the 2 bathrooms, so that's something to keep my occupied while he's off doing God knows what over there :)

Need a Vacation from my Vacation

The Jetplanes headed back to Illinois on Thursday afternoon and got back on Monday afternoon. Let me tell you, while the trip was great...it went by way too fast and I am totally exhausted from it.

Sadly we had to put our 2 furbabies in the kennel, and let me tell you they are still tired lil boys, and probably still a lil pissed off at us. I hate putting them in a kennel, Milo hasn't been boarded in almost 4 years and last time Charlie was boarded he cried and didn't want to eat....yeah needless to say we were worried.

Thankfully, it looks like all went well, except the kennel owner kept calling Milo by the wrong name....he kept calling him Otis. Yeah...I know. But enough of me being the crazy dog mama that I am.

The trip was jammed packed with family, friends, and tons o' fun. I got to see my mama, Mr's grandma, our newest nephew, my grandpa, and tons of friends. We got to attend a fabulous wedding at a gorgeous venue, drank too much champagne and danced our booties off.

I seriously love attending weddings, especially those of my friends. I miss my friends so very much and its wonderful to get to see them at these important events. I love breaking it down on the dance floor with my friends and feel like we're taken right back to senior year of college...perhaps... dropping it like its hot on the dance floor.

You want to know what song takes me straight back to college days partying it up at the college parties, afterhours, beer breakfasts, etc....

Within the next year, all of my best girlfriends will be married ladies. Its so amazing to see us all growing and becoming wives and mothers. I love meeting and developing relationships with their husbands and babies.

Sadly my camera was D-E-A-D at the wedding...but I do have 1 picture. Thanks to my cell phone which was ALMOST dead.

Hope to steal some from others off of Facebook.

Side note - I was in desperate need of an eyebrow waxing so I got mine did at a Mastercuts near Mr's brother's house and he decided he'd get a haircut. Poor guy the woman brutalized his hair...he is still livid. Just because he's in the military people doesn't mean he gets a buzzcut...poor guy :(

Don't Follow this Yellow Brick Road

Good Morning...and Happy Monday?!? Yeah, that's a question I'm not quite sure if its happy or not. I hope everyone had a glorious Easter weekend. The Jetplanes enjoyed the sunshine, yard work, and food with friends. But one thing that put a serious damper on the weekend...

POLLEN!!! Its everywhere! And when I say EVERYWHERE I mean EVERYWHERE!!

You walk in some yards and your shoes turn yellow. Our driveway has a river of yellow on it. People's cars are covered with a 1/8" of yellow powder. We had to close our windows because our leather chair and ottoman were covered in yellow dust, and I don't even want to tell you how disgusting it was when I swept the living room floor yesterday.

We've been told the streets on base will turn yellow...Yeah...That's not a Yellow Brick Road I'm interested in.... especially when I woke up this morning...hardly being able to breathe...ugh...
I'm ready to click my heels and take me away from this...

We Are the Champions...

Seriously we won the whole kit and caboodle on Friday at the Crud tourney. I am so unbelievably proud of us. Here we are leaving the squadron to head to the Oclub for the tourney. Yes that is a blue limo you are seeing and the driver...well that's Mr. Jetplane.

Here are a couple action shots...I'd like to say Mr. took these...but sadly he took more pictures of himself than the games...I stole these from people's FB pages....shhh...

Crud is a really difficult game to explain, but basically its a billiard type of game but with out cuesticks and only 2 balls and 4 pockets. Its more of a military game that's for sure. There are a tons of rules and the commanders of the squadrons were the refs...but that didn't stop us from yelling at them for horrible calls...girls are mean...the games can get pretty hard core and I have the bruises to prove it.
You see you can make physical contact with the other players, you can also jump/crawl on the table, and being a short girl I have to jump up on the table a lot to reach the white ball (which is used to hit the red ball).

Here we are after our 2nd win (beating the retirees wives who won the tourney last year and are always STRONG competition).
A couple more action shots for you. Can you see my intense game face....

Here we are victorious and after over 6 hours of playing and watching other games...finally around 12:30am we had won...we were delighted but exhausted. (And I am one hot, sweaty mess)

It was a great night...I'm a really competitive person and I knew we had a good team, but I didn't know we could win. We've been practicing every week but we had 2 newbies (me and my gf who's hubby is in Mr's class) had never played before, I thought for sure we'd be out by the 2nd round.

I'm so proud of us...I think I might still be on a little Crud high...

How I go from semiformal to punk rock in 1 night...

On Saturday the Jetplanes attended their 1st Warrior Banquet which was also our 1st 'dining out' experience together. (I couldn't attend his OTS graduation due to being in a wedding.)
It was very interesting and actually quite a bit of fun. At our base there are 4 squadrons, 2 operational and 2 training, each is designated by a number, mascot/name, and color. We are the Eagles and our color is blue, therefore the military attendees where a blue bow tie and cumber bun with their mess dress and the spouses are suppose to wear something blue as well - dress, purse, wrap, shoes, etc. etc. The other squadron colors are yellow, red, and hunter green....yeah we had the best option, I think.

Here's our spot in the back of the room, which the boys selected. Away from the important people. All good since we were close to the back bar, but bad since we were one of the last tables to eat...

The banquet is to honor those warriors with us in that room, across the ocean fighting, and those we've lost. This is my 1st experience being part of something like this, sure I've attended Mr. Jetplane's selections, pinnings, etc., but this is the 1st time we've been with hundreds of other men and women that do what Mr. is training to do. I was moved when they toasted to their fellow comrades from our base that are no longer with us, toasted to the heroic acts of some people in that room, and toasted to an instructor in our squadron who is ridiculously funny (Mr's man funny crush) who has more hours in this jet then ANYONE in the USAF. Who knew this joker who makes crude comments at my CRUD practices is actually this awesome, amazing aviator...

(Here are the Jetplanes at the end of the dinner)

The drinks were decent, the food....umm...well its banquet food, and the comradery was great. We had a speaker, a General in the Air Force who made fun of the fighter community being arrogant jerks...which if you want a good laugh at one of these things...that's always the way to go, that's for sure.

There was all the rules of Mess that had to be followed..no clapping allowed must hit table with spoon, you can't leave to go to the bathroom until it is granted by the President of the Mess, etc. etc.

Then there is this thing called the "Grog Bowl" which is a bowl (sometimes Toilet Bowl) where each squadron donates booze and 'other' substances to it. The mixture is stirred and people are toasted and asked to drink from it. Its gross and funny all at the same time. Commander's wives were not spared and all of them in attendance (past and present) drank from the bowl. I would have thrown up, especially since I knew that our squadron donated Everclear and Ranch Dressing....yeah disgusting.

Here I am with some of the other wives from our training squadron, all our husbands are in class together. The blue fans were on the tables, our tables were decorated blue, plus fans were made of feathers...and we're Eagles...get it?!?

The dinner ended and low and below my husband is alittle intoxicated....drinking Johnny Walker Black I think can do that to a person, right? So I was the designated driver, driving us and another couple to an after party at one of the guy's in his class's house. We all got in the car, and as I was closing the door to the driver's seat. I realized that I couldn't really reach my door very well with my dress on. It wasn't tight, but I seemed to be sitting on it in an odd way. I stretched out and slammed the door shut. Then I felt a rush of coldness down my back. Well the top portion of my dress is open so I thought that might be it. But then that rush of coldness went down all the way to my rearend. I swore I could feel the satin lining of my coat on my back...no that certainly couldn't be it...I then slid my hand under my coat and what did I find... Oh just the entire zipper of my desk busted from my bra strap down past my butt....Oh yeah...

So we are in route to the after party and I'm looking for a drug store to go buy safety pins, and my drunk passengers are sure they can fix my dress. (I find out that our CVSs and Walgreens aren't 24 hrs...damn them) Mr. Jetplane even calmly responses... "Don't worry babe...I fix my backpack all the time when the zipper does that..." Ummmm...Jackass!! My dress isn't your backpack!

So needless to say we got the party and while Mr Jetplane attempted to fix my dress, another wife who happens to live in the subdivision, annoyed with her drunk husband, and wants to get out of her shoes/dress, offers to take me to her house and we can fix my dress.

Low and below, homegirl had like 100+ safety pins. At my house, you're lucky to find 1 when you need it...

So this is house my dress looked at the after party....

Nice huh? I just told everyone, I was going for that Punk Rock look... I really didn't care if you saw my bar strap...I was concerned about the rest of my back and my underwear.

Yeah it was quite a night...

FYI - Everyone LOVED my shoes...even the guys!

Oh CRUD...

Being a military wife is not always that different from being the wife of a banker, a fireman, or salesman. You attend 'company' functions, be mindful not to make a total ahole out of yourself, and always make nice with the boss's wife. Its pretty much the same in any line of business your spouse is in, right?

So when you're at a squadron function and the commander's wife asked you to join the officer's wives team for a game you've never heard of...of course you say...yeah why not. And then when she announces....don't worry we're not that violent...you think to yourself, what the hell have I gotten myself into and proceed to scan youtube for videos of this game.

So today I ask any and everyone out there.... Have you ever played Crud?

Mr told me I would have fun and it will be a great way to meet other wives. I agree but I'm uber competitive and if I suck at something...well then I prefer to not do it...yeah that's a sad fact about Mrs. Jetplane. I won't really try to get better, I'll just quit...ask my pretty pink golf clubs in the garage...

So while I was looking for videos of CRUD this popped up...OMG its funny...you'll get a lil shot of the game.

(Back story - classes always put together a video usually making fun of themselves, others, the squadron, whatever and its shown to the class...alot of these are posted on youtube and they are really funny. Most of them make fun of how ridiculous fighter pilots are... and I can speak from experience...alot of the stereotypes are true which makes it sooo much better).

2009...Can't Say I'm Sad to see YOU go...

Wow!!! 2009 was a hell of a year, full of really high highs and really low lows. I had the best of intentions putting together a fabulous post full of pictures and details of our year.
But then I have to admit that I am lazy (something I plan to work on in 2009) and then I got a little depressed about 2009 and stopped. Then I restarted and the stopped... also a running theme for 2009.
So I decided to leave you with pictures from our year and little bits of info here and there.
Unfortunately these are not in chronological order...accept my apologies...

Hit up ATL for the wedding of one of my lovely friends and bridesmaid, Lou. We had a wonderful time, and I drank way to much. Someone may have mounted a statue in the lobby, there were pictures but my computer crashed and those were lost.

We went up to Chicago for a long weekend. Visited friends and attending a Cubs v. Cards game.
I ran into this HOT MESS outside the Cubby Bear... i.e. what not to wear to a Cubs game. FYI it was cold that day.

Celebrated our 1 year anniversary with a short trip to Biloxi. Where I learned that I love Black Jack almost as much as I love Mr. Jetplane. We attended a wedding in STL and got to go to another Cubs v. Cards game in STL. Notice me and Dr. A are supporting different teams?? Yeah! I also got into an agrument with a fat, drunk Cardinals fan at the bar that night... I think I won... We went on a week long boat trip in Kentucky with several of Mr. Jetplane's frat brothers.
Mr. Jetplane became SCUBA certified and we learned to sail (I attempted to learn how to sail)
The Jetplanes moved to NC and Mr. started flying in the F15e. Oh and we BOUGHT A HOUSE!!! And I started working from home.
This year has been filled with a lot of heartache too... I lost my step-grandmother (my only grandmother left) and my great aunt. Mr. Jetplane lost his grandmother.
But there is good news. My mother reconstructive surgery was a success and she is recovering nicely.
The 2 weddings I mentioned above...both of those girls are pregnant one due this month and the other due in May.
Its been a year of ups and downs...
What's up for 2010? Hopefully alittle more of this...

And this...

Happy New Year!! My 2010 Plan is forth coming...

Oh Baby...

This is a post about babies... NO! I repeat NO! The Jetplanes aren't pregnant but it sure feels like everyone else is.

And just to make myself clear.... I am over the moon happy for them. But its still a weird conversation, because as I've stated before, I'm still a little immature about the situation (even though I am 29 yrs old). And I still feel like in some ways we aren't old enough to start having babies yet...even though I totally know that we are. I never said I was rational in my thought process about this...

Its just crazy because we've went through years of people NOT wanting to get pregnant and now you are in a time where people are wanting/trying to get pregnant.

Here's how the convo went down...

Lou: "I'm pregnant!!"
Me: "OMG! Really! Seriously! I'm so... wait are we excited? We are excited, right?"
Lou: "Yes! We're happy! It wasn't planned but we're happy!"
Me: "Great! Because I'm totally crying over here! I'm so happy for you guys!"

Its still strange because I feel like, even though we've all been out of college for going on 7 years now...wow 7 years... I still feel like we're those young college girls in our black minis, backless shirts, and knee high black boots...going out hitting the town, doing shots, and dancing to techno music until 5 in the morning...

But (un)fortunately we are not... Our alcohol tolerance has decreased and our skirt lengths have increased but our love for one another has always remained the same.

Now...when are the Jetplanes going to have a baby? Not for some time...

We're BBBBAAAACCCKKK!!!

The Jetplanes had a fantastic time on a boat this past week. 11 kids (if we can be called that anymore) on 1 house boat - 6 bedrooms and 2 baths...but it wasn't an issue at all.
Kitchen/Dining/Living Area

Front our front lower deck, another boat that is just like ours.
Back of the top deck

One of the guys and I did the majority of the cooking for the week, surprisingly he was a great cook and was constantly cleaning (when he was sober).

We were at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. So we were living in up in the KY (the state, not the jelly) for 5 days. It wasn't hot, but sunny all the days but 1, and that was one rainy ass day.

We were also with 2 other boats, 29 people in total. We had a wonderful time.

Yes most of these pictures were captured while intoxicated.

Now I have to get back to the land of the living. It was really nice to not wear any makeup or blow dry my hair for a week.

Happy Monday!
