What deployment looks like...Part 2

During deployment the guys tend to do some crazy things. They can't drink and they need to do/have things that keep their lives enjoyable/fun. One of the random things they do are grow mustaches...aka deployment staches.

I was fully expecting Mr. Jetplane to grow a killer mustache while he was down range (aka the sandbox... aka the desert) But what I wasn't expecting was this...

Please explain to me why in the hell my handsome husband would do this to himself...and be proud of it? He didn't just shave his head...he bic'd it. Its horrible... I hate it.

Side note...he was not down range when this Skype date happened. Their living accommodations don't have nice floor lamps.

Pug Friday - ROAR

Happy Pug Friday Everyone...

And this has absolutely nothing to do with pugs but it is way too funny not share. And yes I agree the guy's voice sounds alot like Woody Harrelson sometimes.

When the hubby's away...

I will get crafty... Well honestly I made the 1st wreath before he left. This wreath will be displayed for the entire deployment. I chose to make the wreath with Mr. Jetplane's squadron colors. Next is my Easter/Spring wreath. Its super easy. I purchased a foam wreath from Michael's that was 50% off. I used several packages of mini poms from the dollar store. Its simple...I used hot glue to attach the poms around the wreath. I was able to do the whole thing in about an hour while watching television and talking to Mama Jetplane....Something else cute that I picked up at Michaels...these adorable circus theme journals, cards, and cupcake wrappers. They are in the dollar bins...nothing better than that right... I'm eager to see Water for Elephants and this puts me in the mood even more.

A lil update...

Thank you all for the outpouring love you have shown me today, I greatly appreciate it.

As some of you know Mr. flies the F15e and that aircraft was involved in a crash earlier today. Thankfully all on board were able to eject and be rescued safely. Mr. Jetplane was not involved in this incident. The jet came from one of the other squadrons. The fighter community is very small and an incident like this affects us all.

Please keep all of the men and women in uniform in your thoughts and prayers. Mechanical failures happen and thankfully these guys/gals are well trained and prepared for these type of circumstances.

We are the Land of the Free because of the Brave.

What deployment looks like...

I haven't written this post for a couple of reasons.
#1 Mr's departure days/time is sensitive for obvious reasons.
#2 It makes me sad.
#3 I don't have good pictures.
These departures generally happen at night and they are notorious for getting canceled and rescheduled....and of course that happened to us.

(p.s. you can see our new backsplash behind us...I still need to paint the cabinets while Mr. is gone)

This is the only decent picture we have together before he left and its horrible. It was taken on try night #1. This is what I look like after bursting into tears on and off for 48 hrs. Yeah... its tough stuff especially when you had to pick up your husband and do it all over again another 24 hrs later. What else was fun on the second try...ohhh it was just about 20 degrees cooler and windy as hell.
We said our goodbyes and I love you's and I left him at his squadron for the 2nd night in a round. I then met up with the other wives at our sister squadron. They were nice enough to host us and take us down to the flight line. The squadron leaves in waves that are spread out over several days and they leave in groups which they call ships. If you see 4 jets in a group that is called a 4 ship. There were 2 ships leaving the night Mr. Jetplane left.
I apologize for the pictures, they are horrible. It is sooo dark and only 2 generators with lights were out there. It was FREEZING and my hands where shaking.
This is Mr. Jetplane's jet. I stood, waved, and spun my glowsticks so much you would think I was at a rave...surprisingly he said he never saw me until they lined up for take off. Here they are lined up and preparing to take off. They took off 1 by 1. It was truly an amazing and moving experience. I was proud to share this time with my fellow spouses and the entire sister squadron out there to show their support. I cheered and jumped up and down as Mr. Jetplane pulled up and waved goodbye. You then hear and feel the jet take off. You watch the jet engines create these balls of fire and then become smaller and smaller balls of light in the dark night sky. It might sound cheesy but you haven't lived until you feel a group of jets take off from the flight line...it is an amazing sight.
And then...they are gone. Its this strange, surreal feeling that you can't explain. You come home around 2am and this is what you have left...And you are filled with pride and sadness at the same time... You try to go to sleep in your empty bed and realize this is how its going to be for a while. You try to calm down your big bulldog because he's wandering around the house looking for his daddy and you cry because you have to tell him over and over that daddy isn't here.
I've been told numerous times the 1st deployment is the toughest. The first week is the toughest. You have to take it day by day... and that's exactly what I am doing.
Less than 1% of the US population serve in uniform and I am honored to call one of those few my husband.
Thank you all for your love and support during this time. I greatly appreciate it and all of you.

Its the little things...

I found this note this weekend. Mr. Jetplane wrote it a couple pages in on the notepad I use in the kitchen.

This is something silly that we do to each other sometimes. Write a lil note in the other work notebooks, drop a note in a book they are reading, etc. I don't know if he did this ages ago or right before he left, either way its perfect.

And now its going to be on the fridge until he comes home...

Lord please grant me the serenity...

p.s. Thank you so much for the love you have showed me. I appreciate you all more than you'll ever know :)

Pug Friday - I iz sadz pug

I think this picture adequately demonstrates what I feel this very moment. Things are out of my control and I'm stuck. Mr. will be leaving soon and I'm not too proud to admit that I cry about it every single day.

Last night I came to bed about 10 minutes after Mr. Jetplane and he was asleep. He was lightly snoring and 8 Mile was on the television. I crawled into bed and thought to myself, 6 months ago I would be annoyed that he is snoring but last night it made me cry. I cried realizing that I won't hear that light, soft snore for a very long time.

Yesterday I received an email from a coworker of mine. He is a retired Marine, former helicopter pilot that was shot down in Vietnam and received the purple heart. He wrote,

"Thank God we have people like Mr. Jetplane willing to serve and protect us. Thank God for loving and supportive wives like you."

I may have lost it while he reading it.

Thank you to all those who have sent me kind tweets and emails, left lovely blog comments or Facebook messages, and special thank you to those that have sent me lovely gifts in the mail. I appreciate your support more than you'll ever know.

And if you know me in real life and I haven't returned your emails or phone calls, sorry.... I promise I will.

Its the little things...

Over the past couple of weeks I've had a lot of really crazy dreams. I'm pretty sure Mr leaving is screwing with my subconscious and providing me with these horrible dreams.

The other morning Mr. came in to tell me goodbye...he'd already been up for a hour studying for something or another and came to grab something and give me a kiss goodbye*.

I informed him that I had a horrible dream that he was going to leave me for a friend of ours, who is a girl in another squadron. We actually hung out with her over the weekend.

Mr laughed and said "Oh God...no way."

I said "You told me I wasn't the refuge you were hoping for."

He said, "I don't even know what that means..."

I responded, "Yeah, you're always a lot smarter in my dreams".

He walked out of the bedroom closing the door telling me I was mean. I assured him I was joking and then 5 seconds later he said "Okay, I know what it means now...damn it, it shouldn't have taken me that long..."

Those are the conversations I'm going to miss when he's gone to the desert. The lighthearted joking we give each other all day everyday. People often laugh at us when we were around. People think we're fighting, but rest assured we're not. Its a crazy, perhaps deranged way we show affection to each other. I know we're freaks, but its ok.

Its us, I'm a firm believer that every couple has their own language of love and sometimes ours includes calling each other a dumbass occasionally...

Over the winter, we've been doing a fair amount of snowboarding...well I'm learning Mr is an old pro. Here he is tearing it up on the slopes...

I'm gonna miss this as well...

* As the wife of an aviator, it is a must in our household that when you leave the house no matter the time of day or night or what you are doing, you find your spouse give them a kiss/hug and tell them you love them. Something can happen during a flight, heck something could happen walking to your car, I want my last words to my spouse to be "I Love You!".

So late to the game...

Well hello there... We're knee deep in preparations for Mr. Jetplane's upcoming desert vacay so last night, while he was packing his 72 hr bag that can weight 70lbs and be on the jet with him, we watched Catfish.

Yeah I know, I'm so far behind. Well, sorry folks homegirl here lives in BFE and they didn't release it in theaters around me, that I was aware of :( Plus I've been trying to RedBox that stuff since it was released to DVD. 3 RedBoxes in our lil town and believe I've been checking all of them on the regular.

But I digress...we finally watched it. Mr had no idea what this film was even about but even he liked it. The commented...you and your twatter friends should be careful. Yeah he calls Twitter, Twatter.

I do think in this day in age of social media, its important for everyone to know this cautionary tale. I feel its even more vital for people in the blogging community to be mindful of these issues. Not to give anything away, but people out there on the world wide web, aren't always as they seem... I know a big DUH right...well its true.

We've all heard of the blogs and bloggers that aren't exactly what they seem or have fabricated an entire life for themselves. I think we all need to be cautious. We open ourselves up in this space. Whether to find comfort, compassion, friendship, shopping tips, recipes, advice, or a free 20% off coupon, we are opening our worlds and often our hearts to masses of people that we've never met.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this community. I feel thankful for this community. And on somedays, I will admit I need this community. But unfortunately the world isn't a perfect place, and some people are straight up crazzzzy....

Anyone else have any thoughts on the movie? This crazy world of blogging/twitter/facebook?
