Does Anyone Else Hear That Loud SUCKING Noise???

Yeah? That's my hard earned money being sucked out of my bank account... Don't get me wrong I love our new home (that we own). I love picking out paint colors, drapes, rugs, etc. I love deciding where the mirror should go, how to arrange my pantry, and sleep in our brand new room.

But as much as I love to shop and spend money... I hate to spend money... and spend money is what we've been doing... a lot of.

1. Buying all new blinds for the house. It was new and had none.
2. Buying lawn stuff... the yard was a little sad and it costs a lot to get all the crap we needed for it.
3. Buying new curtain rods. We have several windows that are much larger than our previous houses. Which also led to some new curtains...
4. New furniture... we assumed we'd be buying furniture for the downstairs living room since our sectional would go upstairs in our new bonus room. Ha Ha! Sectional won't fit up the stairs. Luckily we sold it to a friend (for quite a deal for him). We have purchased new furniture for downstairs and upstairs. Yeah!!! Did that sucking noise just get alot louder all of a sudden??
5. Food... having to buy all new condiments, oils, etc. You wouldn't think would be a big deal, but it seriously adds up.
6. Garage crap... Mr. needed to build a work bench, have shelving, and is now coating the garage floor...
7. Still need to buy 2 rugs, one for downstairs and one for upstairs...why are rugs so expensive? Speaking of which... why are baskets so expensive... and curtain rods? and pillows? ugh...

Oh and the list goes on and on...

Sorry for the rant...

Oh yes, I've heard that sound plenty of times! Owning a home, and moving to a new home every several years keeps that sound as constant background music!

I feel your pain!! We just bought too, and had to buy sooooo much. We still have some stuff to buy for a few rooms, but for now the $$ isn't flying out of our wallets.

I feel your pain! Decorating is so fun-until you get the bill. We've been on a home improvement marathon and I cry a little each time I write out the check to the contractor! :)

We've heard that noise in our house as well. In the last few months I've been redecorating the bachelor pad and in the meantime (after all decor was purchased) the dishwasher goes out, the mailbox falls over, the dogs get sick, the coffee pot and grinder break, etc. I don't think it ever ends!

I can definitely relate. When we moved into our new house, it seemed like we were constantly buying new stuff. I think we got on a first-name basis with the staff at the local home improvement store... :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean. And we don't move for another 4 weeks.

As our mortgage lender stated when my husband purchased our home, "welcome to home ownership and a lifetime of maintenance." Enjoy! It does become fun to decorate and get things the way you want it. It is the work to get there that blows!

I feel your pain - we bought our house in 2006 & we are still decorating etc! I have a question though - I am British & have NO IDEA what a 'bonus room' is - can you enlighten me?

Oh I feel your pain... we have moved several times and it is so shocking every time how quickly all those small things add up!

Oh goodness. Not looking forward to any of those purchases in the not-to-distant future. ick.

Oh, I know just what you mean!! We moved all the time growing up, and it's incredible how you forget how much condiments and spices can build up. Those suckers cost a few dollars a piece, and when you need to rebuild your whole collection, it gets SO expensive!

This may or may not be one of the largest reasons we don't own a home.

I had trouble coming to terms with buying furniture for an 800 sq ft apartment. A whole house is DEFINITELY going to be problematic.

Ugh I know how you feel. YES, little fridge-items seriously do add up! It's so frustrating!

I'll be in your shoes in a few months when we move into our first house, buy all new furniture, decorations, etc... I'm getting sick just thinking about it.

I totally understand. We are thinking of moving in the near future and have been trying to take all of the extras into account. It is going to get crazy expensive! I hope your bank account gets a break soon :)

I HATE spending money too so even though I'm not in this phase of life where I'm buying stuff for my house, I completely and utterly understand. Hang in there though - it will all be worth it! :-)
