The Jetplanes Threw Down This Morning About...

THIS... Yes you see correctly... Peanut Butter and most importantly the Battle of Creamy v. Crunchy.
You see the Jetplanes have fundamentally different views on peanut butter, I am a creamy and he unfortunately is a crunchy, go figure right? Well, since Mr. Jetplane was not living with me for 6 months (don't flip out recent readers...he was at training) I NEVER brought crunchy. Well now he's back and bitching about the fact that I don't buy him crunchy peanut butter. So again this morning while putting peanut butter on his raisin toast and filling Charlie's KONG with peanut butter he shouted from the kitchen... "Hey...Seriously hon, buy me some crunchy peanut butter!"
Me: "Get over it! There is no need to have 2 different peanut butters in this house and I BUY the groceries. Its a total waste of $4 to have 2 jars of it in the house."
Him: "Whatever!"
Me: "Ok I'll buy you your crunch peanut butter but you decide what you don't want this week instead."
Him: "Huh?"
Me: "Yes that's right... I have to buy raisin bread, tortillas, Naked Drinks, Gatorade, Soy Milk, certain type of healthy cereal, Luna bars, and I have to wait in line for a certain type of lunch meat....etc. etc. etc. So you decide what can go so I can buy your peanut butter."
Him: "Fine! Then I'll go buy it myself!"
Me: "Really? You understand that we, and by we, I mean I, spend $400 a month on groceries* and I don't really see the point in having 2 jars of relatively the exact same food."
Him: "I said I'll buy it myself!"
Me: "Okay... you do that, but keep in mind if you bought the groceries... you would tell me what I wanted wasn't a necessity and we didn't need it... Or what I wanted wasn't 'healthy' and it shouldn't be in the house..."
Him: "No I wouldn't.... (thinking...) Okay.... you're right... I would do that..."
*$400/ month for groceries may seem high to some, but we generally bring our lunches to work and don't go out to eat that much. But I am making an effort to reduce the costs... and therefore 2 jars of peanut butter... not needed.
This is what I felt like doing to him with the peanut butter this morning...

We have this discussion as well.
Unfortunately, since he does most of the grocery shopping I lose my rights to creamy peanut butter.
Tell Mr. Jetplane to throw the nuts in himself :)
400/week on groceries!!! For two peeps!!! Wow! Josh and I spend less than 100 a week and we rarely eat out...maybe the cost of living is a ton more in pcola?
Seriously - I thought ours was the only household with this dilemma...
We currently have 3 peanut butters in the house (his, hers & the dog's.) Neither of us is willing to compromise (and he refuses to eat after the dog), so I buy little jars for each of us -- small price for sanity (until I find out he's ate mine, then it gets U-G-L-Y!)
Thanks for sharing & making me feel quasi-normal!
We spend roughly $150 every two weeks at the grocery store and each time my husband cringes. I keep telling him to get over it and that $150 isn't that much!
Fortunately, we're both creamy people, but we'll occassionally want to try crunchy so we'll splurge every now and then.
i dont know why i thought it said 400/week...my bad my bad...I thought you guys were eating steaks each night or something.
I'm on his side on this one... It's not like Peanut Butter goes bad. If you get two jars, it just means it'll be longer until you buy PB again.
Same disucssion in our home..... except it concerns white bread vs wheat. My husband complains all the time...but my point is that I do the buying, and it's healthier. I'm also thinking about our son's health too. :)
He complains every single time. We've been married for almost 6 years. You would think he would let it drop by now! LOL
I am a crunchy girl myself (only as it relates to peanut butter, that is), so I will argue Mr. Jetplane's side here. However, I can sympathize, since the AH & I have a similar ongoing debate & duplicate shopping habits over pulp vs. non-pulp OJ.
We have the same discussion. I don't feel like its a big deal if we have skim milk and full cream. Or wheat and white bread. Or corn flakes and bran. He complains the loudest of the two of us, and I don't want to lose out on my prefrences. I figure it can go this way until babies come. Small price for a big reward... sanity...
$400 in South Africa Currency is just under R4000 and pays for nearly 3 months groceries for the two of us. Or rent for a month and a half. Weird.
luckily we both eat creamy. But I do end up buying different bread for the two of us. Oh, and milk.
The peanut butter dilemma. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!
Haha! thank goodness we both like creamy! I hate seeing my total at the grocery store. Its depressing!
I'm so glad this isn't just in my household! It's peanut butter, bread, and pasta in our house.
Mrs. Newlywed's comment cracked me up!!!
We actually have both kinds in the house cos I refuse to eat creamy, hahaha!
Sorry my friend, but I gotta say that I completely understand what Mr. Jetplane is going through, and there is just no comparison when it comes to eating crunchy pb.
;)
$400 is reasonable in my mind... I buy groceries, but he pays for all our "eating out" which we've cut way back on --
This made me totally LOL
This gave me a god laugh.
HAHAHAHH that picture was GREAT!
Yeah, I'm on your side. I don't see the point of getting 2 different jars. I'm the same way though, I take lunch to work and rarely eat out so I pay around that for groceries as well.
Thank goodness Husby eats creamy peanut butter like me! Husby and I spend about the same amount each week - but I make lunch/dinner every night so we go through food quickly.
I'm going to have to {politely} freak out on you for $400/week. We budget $400 a month and that includes eating out (which we rarely do) for two people. I cook meals that allow for leftovers and we prepare our own lunches as well. And we live in California where the cost of living is outrageous! What are you two eating?! (And can I come for dinner, because it's bound to be fantastic! =)
Ignore that - you must have changed it, because in my reader it said $400/week, and your blog says $400/month.
You're perfectly reasonable!
I was dying laughing at this. Hilarious! :) You're so funny and hmmm I like both! :) ha ha, good luck with getting him to change to your side.
Me and the Boom are crunchy - Evs is ambivalent... so we are a crunchy household!
Creamy over crunchy anyway. You tell him!!!
We are big eat-in people, too. We eat dinner out one night a week and the rest is bringing our lunches to work and cooking dinner at home. We spend about $250-$300/month on groceries.
I prefer creamy. But tend not to buy a lot of PB. I think because I'm not big on sandwiches maybe?
peanut butter HAS to be done right- and furthermore, its the person who does the shopping who gets the power... in my book anyway ;)
We both like creamy PB.
That picture is really creeping me out. Who leaves their kid alone long enough to do that much damage? HAHA!
How could this baby poured all those peanut butter on his body.. Mom did you took care of your baby?
