Oh Sookie... you're so fine, you're so fine... you blow my mind...

Well... let me tell you I finished Dead and Gone on Friday night. And I had a mix of happiness and sadness. I was happy that I finished the book and sad that it was over. I love the Bon Temps world and all the crazy characters that inhabit it. The book was good... not great, but very good. And you want to know the best part.... Eric, oh Eric... I heart you and want you and Sookie to end up together.

I'm not going to give anything away, but I will tell you that you get to learn more about Hotshot, the Fae community, and more about Sookie's family history. There's a mysterious death of a 'person' close to Sookie, the Weres come of out the closet, and a new war is brewing in the supernatural community. My only complaint is, I did feel some of the story lines could have been drawn out a little more. But in general I really enjoyed the book.... and Eric...ok so might be a little obsessed with Eric.

Now... I'm going to open the conversation to Twilight v. Sookie Series... Yes, I've commented that this series is much better than Twilight and I firmly stand behind that statement. Sorry all you Twilight lovers, but its true.

**The next statements are the opinions of Mrs. Jetplane and Mrs. Jetplane only...

Twlight

I found Bella incredibly annoying in the first 2 books. I found her incredibly needy and co-dependent. I say this as an almost 29 year old woman, but I found her completely immature which would make sense, since she is a teenager. It left me thinking... OMG was I that needy and annoying in high school, I'm pretty sure the answer would be YES!

I found Meyer's writing style annoying at times. I felt used some words over and over, and I became noticeable.

I found it disappointing that her fight scenes were extremely short. She would write pages after pages go into specific detail about some things, and then in the culmination of a battle it would get like 5 pages....very anti climatic for me.

FYI - I got Mr. Jetplane to read them as well... he agreed.

P.S. Yes I love Edward and Jacob. P.S.S. I'm very concerned about how they are going to make the werewolve transform in the movie, since I thought the glittery skin in the sun stuff was complete crap.

Sookie Stackhouse Series

I enjoy the fact that it is ADULT. Read all that you want into the word...ADULT...this isn't PG13 honeys...

Sookie is an incredibly strong young woman. You respect and admire her as a character. She doesn't need a man, even though she does get quite a few.

The stories bring you into a whole new supernatural world, and with each book you learn more and more about the 'people' and societies that walk upon this world.

Its dark but humorous all at the same time.

And the books aren't crazy long.

NOW --- to wrap this up. Yes, I read all the Twilight books. Yes, generally I like them, but I'll be honest... I HATED New Moon. I had to push myself through it because I wanted to read all 4 before the movie came out. Do I honestly believe that the Sookie series is better, yes I do. That is my personal opinion... so please no mean comments. I know you crazy Twilight fans.

But I do feel as an adult, I found Sookie was more appealing to my sensibilities than Bella.

So what's the peanut gallery have to say about it....

I didn't like Twilight either, I thought I was the only one!

I agree with what you said about Twilight. Bella is annoying. New Moon sucked. The books aren't that well written. I'm still obsessed though. I guess Stephenie Meyer was doing something right.

I'll hold my opinion on Sookie. I'm still not finished with the first one and have all but the last at home to read.

I didn't like Twilight either, and unlike you I couldn't get through New Moon, I tried and tired but I had to give up! I might need to check these books out!

Love the post. I agree that Dead and was good but not great. It just left so many unanswered questions. So of course I really can not wait until the next book. And of course I share your love of Eric...ooooooh Eric!

But I also loved the Twilight series. They are just so different. Sookie books are so much more adult but the Twilight books appeal to the romantic in me.

So I can't pick one, love them both!

I agree 100%. I really liked Twilight...in a teenage sort of way. I found Bella very annoying, hated New Moon, but I do think she redeemed herself in the end (which is good...otherwise I don't think she would have deserved to be with Edward). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Sookie books, and I have a big crush on Eric :)!

I agree with you. I have thoroughly loved the Sookie series. Not only that, but Mr. Potts is hooked on it as well.

I think that Sookie is more realistic & I found myself laughing outloud as I read these books. I wish that Charlaine Harris would hurry up & write more - I read the 9th book in less than a day.

I did like Twilight from a purely entertainment perspective, but I was so annoyed with Bella in the 2nd book that I almost didn't read any further.

oh mrs. jetplane, you are a woman after my own heart. I HATED Twilight (but I do love wide awake...seriously read it, you'll thank me later). I also found Bella annoying and dependent. And I'm also concerned about the movie. hopefully with a bigger budget they'll be able to do better special effects.

Obvs I love Sookie. I'm about half way through the new book. Will let you know what I think.

I have read both series. I still have Dead and Gone to read but I can already tell you that I like the Sookie Stackhouse books better. I loved Twilight and the
2nd book was actually my favorite one but still not as good as these. I can't wait to read Dead and gone. And I agree about Eric. I crush on him more than I did Jacob.

I just started the Dead until Dark audio book last night, so I don't have much to offer on the subject yet, plus I only skimmed through the post just in case there were any spoilers.

I have heard such great things about the Sookie series and have been looking foward to reading it for months. The voice of the lady who reads it is already bugging me though...I just hope I can get over it because I really want to be able to enjoy the book. I'll let you know what I think of it...

I haven't read any of the Sookie books yet, but they are on my list!

As for Twilight, I read books 1-3, but can't bring myself to read 4 because of everything you said....Bella is SOOOO annoying, Meyer DOES use the same words over and over again, and I would want to claw my eyes out when she would not stop describing some event despite getting the point across 9347 pages ago. UGH.

Ok, I've been waiting for someone to do a direct comparison on these. First of all I love the twilight series. I thought Bella was incredible annoying as well. However, I loved the books...well except the last one.

As for the Sookie Stackhouse books, I've only read the first one. I though it was good but wasn't great. I dont know what it was but I think it was the major southern draw she had. I felt like from the outfits and such that she seemed very....trashy like not whore trashy but cheap. that's just my opinion though.
Don't get mad

I love everything vampire, so I liked Twilight. I love True Blood, but haven't read any of the books yet. I know, I know, after all of your recaps I know I need to just bite the bullet and start the series already.

Do you watch True Blood?

I purchased the first book in both series last week and they arrived today.

Can we have this discussion again in two weeks so I can add something? ;-)

I completely agree...I liked Twilight at the time but that was before I discovered the Sookie series and now I totally agree that Bella is winey and really annoying. I'm only on book 5 of the Sookie series but can't wait to keep reading the rest!!

I like Twilight and Sookie... New Moon was definitely the worst of the Twilight series and I wasn't thrilled with how Twilight ended, but I liked that the books were meaty. But, the Sookie books are plentiful, so I don't always mind that things aren't drawn out. But this last book, definitely could have been drawn out just a little bit more. I mean, Eric is back with Sookie, I wanted to read more about that...and less about the fairy war. Regardless, I can't wait for book number 10 to come out this October :)

I liked Twilight alright but I was not a clamoring fan - in fact, I am just now getting around to watching it on Netflix (its sitting at home now). I too HATED Bella - until she became a vampire - and I also found Edward super patronizing and paternalistic (yes, I know, he's like 150 years old, but whatever). I also hated the cheesy high school love scenes - if she described him as a "sculpted pillar of marble" one more time I was going to gouge my eyes out. And finally, WE GET IT - YOU THINK PREMARITAL SEX IS BAD! Stop pounding it into my scull!

I guess that's what we all get for reading teen books though :)

Now Sookie... ahhhhhhh Sookie - love, Love, LOVE the Southern Vamp Series and LOVE the show. I can't wait to see what HBO does with the rest of the books!

I felt like the Twilight books were OK. Bella irriatated me to no end. Melissa and I listened to it audiobook style on a road trip and by hour two of "crooked smile" and "narrowed eyes" we were over it. She was a whiny little brat. Imagine someone narrarating that. That being said, I finished the series and loved the story.

I like the book Sookie better than the tv series Sookie. The one in the TV series is overly naive, her accent is bad and she seems just plain stupid. Book sookie is endearing in my opinion. She's smart and not outwardly naive.

I liked this last book a lot.

I am a huge Twilight fan, but have heard that the Sookie books are really good and much more adult. I can't wait to start reading the series. And no, I'm not offended by the Twilight comments. We all need a little more vampire in our lives...
