Someone is a little emotional today...

And that someone is me. Okay, a little back story here may be needed. Living in P'cola I am truly disturbed by one thing... how many animals I see killed on the side of the road - be those armadillos, cats, raccoons, squirrels, birds, and dogs. I see dogs running around neighborhoods on main streets with tags on, every single day. It breaks my heart. People if you can't tend to you dog, you shouldn't have one. In the subdivison next to mind, people leave their 'lil'dogs out in the front yard and they follow Milo and I as we walk. I've seen these dogs almost get hit over 10 times.
But today I was heading to work not far from my subdivision is a very heavily tree lined area and I see a squirrel run down a tree and a car in front of mine with a woman on her cell phone. I yell to the squirrel, "Watch out!" Yes I totally did this but the squirrel didn't listen to me and I saw this poor thing get hit. And then I started crying and I don't mean a tear, I mean full on cried for like 5 minutes until I had to compose myself to buy some gas.
Mr. Jetplane says I'm an overly emotional person, but I can't help it. I love all the lil squirrels, and I hate to one die, especially right in from of me.
Squirrels are my sorority's mascot, so maybe I love them a little more than other people....

A bird flew into my windshield the other day and I think he died. Either way, I had to pull over because I was shaking and crying.
Oh I am the same way.
One time I *almost* hit some sort of animal, and I panicked. Mr. Newlywed had to tell me to pull over so we could switch. I was a mess.
I am the same way, I love animals tons and hate to see them get hurt. Hubby has even banned animal movies from the house. When we saw Gran Torino last week I was crying because I was worried about the puppy.
One time I accidentally stepped on a snail and I cried. I felt horrible that I killed the little thing. He wasn't doing anything wrong. Just minding his business, hanging out in his house. Poor thing.
I would have lost it over a squirrel. Especially if he wear wearing a flight cap and googles a la Rocky.
I hate, hate, hate to see dead animals on the side of the road. Also, this family in our neighborhood keeps their dog chained outside all day, every single day. Even when it's below freezing. No fence, just a twelve foot chain and a little doggie crate. Breaks my heart every single time I pass him. I want to go save him some time when they aren't home. It's not stealing if it's a puppy rescue, right? I mean, what's the point of even having a dog if you never let him inside?
I would be super sad too. Don't worry, Mr. R always says that I'm a huge HUGE crier over everything. Too bad but hey, at least you warned the squirrel! You tried. :(
I am the same way! Once, on the way to work I saw a dog get hit, it ended up being okay and some nice people took it to the vet cos it appeared to only have a broken leg, but I was a total wreck. It is an image I can not get out of my mind, I seriously was crying and shaking so much I had to call into work and take the day off. I was a wreck!
So I completely understand, I hate seeing things like that.
:(
I am the exact same way.. whenever we are driving and I see that there is an animal up ahead I always stick my hand out to block my view... otherwise I would just start crying too! I end up thinking about that poor animal all day...
People need to be more careful!
Oh I understand. Wholeheartedly - I started a petition (On MySpace) called People Against Outside Pets.
I once ran over a caterpillar and had to pull over and cry. Over a caterpillar. How I even saw it, I have no idea. I would cry about a squirrel too!
Seeing anything get hit is traumatizing. I am so sorry! People need to be more careful when driving through subdivisions in general. Pets and children are at play!! I hope your day gets better and is non eventful from here on out! :)
I HATE when I see animals on the road... I HATE even more when I am the one to accidentally run them over. Sometimes you can't help it - but it is still terrible :( So sad!
I don't think you are too emotional, I think you are very kind!
Oh I really hate seeing dead animals on the side of the road. I don't know what I would do if I actually saw one get hit...how horrible!
I get really sad when I see hit animals. I see ton on the roads in Virginia. And I fear one day I will get in a wreck over swerving to miss a deer or dog
The Bumpkin is so proud of you Jetplane. Compassion for animals, you have it my friend!
I am the exact same way! I am the biggest animal lover and I will flat out stop in the middle of the road to let a squirrel cross the street. My hubby does the same for me and if he sees a dead animal on the side of the road he tries to distract me so I wont see it. I always get sad and sometimes I cry too.
Poor animals :(
I hit an armadillo once.
I was hysterical. I had to call my Dad to come get me because I couldn't see to drive.
Then when he got there I made him bury the armadillo before we left.
Did I mention I made him check to make sure it was dead?!? Not my finest hour..
I was driving One day and hit a chipmunk... I cried the rest of the way to work (I worked at my parent's coffee shop at the time) and my mom saw me and was like "oh my gosh what's wrong?" I told them what happened and they all were trying not to laugh at me...
So it's ok, you're not alone!
Awww ... I cry, too! I love animals, and seeing them on the side of the road hurts! Dogs, especially. I have a Siberian Husky and would be absolutely devastated if anything were to happen to her! I feel your pain!
