Totally lost my sh-t at the Lady Dr. Today...

Yeah you read that right...

Someone bald her eyes out today, sitting in a paper dress, in front of her doctor. Its like I can write about my mom being diagnosed with cancer, but when I verbalize it, OMG I become a mess.

Lady Dr.... not that supportive.

Anyway - more info to follow later. Also I have several questions for the ladies out there?

1. BRACA anyone?
2. Do you take Folic Acid before getting pregnant?
3. Did you get any vaccinations before getting pregnant?

Need to discuss...

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 34. However, since she is the only one on her side of the family with breast cancer, our family will not be taking a BRACA test. My dr. suggested it but my mom really doesn't want what to do it. She also is nervous for insurance purposes for my sister and I. She actually just had a mastectomy on her other breast and reconstruction surgery about a month ago! Hope your mom is doing well.

Breast Cancer doesn't run in my family, so no BRACA for me. I'm sorry about your mom! It's such a hard thing to go through! You're in my prayers!

Prenatals? YES YES YES! It never hurts, and start drinking lots of water and eating healthy, lots of yummy spinach and other foods high in folic acid! :) Yay!

Immunizations? No. I didn't even get the flu shot, even though I was supposed to. I'm a little paranoid. It's all good though.

At my last doctor's appt. I asked my doctor if there is anything I can be doing to ready my body for pregnancy...whenever my husband and I may decide to take that step. She told me that "any woman of child bearing age should be taking folic acid". It doesn't hurt either...plus it makes your hair and nails look great!

Oh sweetie I hope everything is ok. Thinking of you and sending hugs your way. The lady dr appts are never fun, and this one sounds like it is no exception.

I am so sorry you had such a rough appointment. No breast cancer in my family, so no BRACA for me. I just lost my grandad to cancer though. It's a bitch. :(

I don't now what a BRACA test is... I started taking prenatal vitamins (which have high folic acid) a while before I got pregnant, mainly because if you are deficient in folic acid, it can cause birth defects before you even know you are pregnant. And I did get the flu shot before becoming pregnant (though not on purpose.) Feel free to ask any questions you may have! =)

My great grandmother had breast cancer, but they don't suggest I get a BRACA test done.

2) Definitely start taking a multi vitamin with plenty of folic acid, and calcium in it! If you go to a local vitamin store they can help get you one that is right for you (or you could ask your doctor to get you started on prenatal vitamins) Definitely make sure you are on a good healthy diet too!!

3)I never got any immunizations before getting pregnant (although my pregnancy was an accident). I also didn't get the flu shot while pregnant, mainly because I hate shots and am skeptical about how well the flu one works.

Good luck with everything, so exciting!

So sorry about your mom ::hugs:: No females in my family have been diagnosed, so no BRACA for me.

We're going to start TTC in November, and my lady doctor recommended that I start taking folic acid now. I started taking One-A-Day prenatals.

Not sure about immunizations - my doctor didn't say anything about that. She did do a blood work up and checked for certain markers (for spina bifida, I think) and to make sure I'm current on my vaccines. Everything came back perfect, so we're set to start TTC in a few months!

Good luck!

I took folic acid (B6) when the idea of pregnacy even came into the picture. I probably had been taking it 2 or 3 months before I got pregnant. My doc didn't say anything about vaccinations though.... actually, I've never heard that. So can't help you there.

My Aunt is currently fighting a battle with stage two breast cancer. She was out walking one day, felt a pinch and came home to find a lump under her arm. She was diagnosed on my b-day (crappy) and recently had a double mastectomy. The Dr. found cancerous cells in her right breast as well, so it was a blessing that she had them both removed. Breast cancer doesn't run in our family- she is the first, but I am going to request the BRAC test at my next lady dr. visit. I know how you are feeling, and please let me know if I can be of sisterly support to you!
Mr. Top Gun and I had the baby talk SERIOUSLY in depth today, and we discussed me starting folic acid (per my mom in laws suggestion,) she is an incredible woman, btw ;) so I would suggest taking the pills. As far as the vaccinations? I just finished a slew of them for our overseas PCS, but haven't heard much about getting them before having a baby! *Your mom is in my prayers!*

Don't worry, I did that the other day too. My doctor was also not very supportive. I had some abnormal cells in a questionable area that needed to be checked out...with a percentage that it could be cancer. Of course, I was completely freaked and started balling before the exam and she just handed me a Kleenex and that was really it. It was very embarrassing and uncomfortable.

I hope your situation turns out okay and you are able to have healthy happy babies very soon!

I did not have vaccinations before I got pregnant, Yes I started taking folic acid a couple months previous to getting pregnant.

I honestly don't know what the BRACA is. There's no history of breast cancer in our family thankfully. I'm so sorry you've had to go through this hon...

And it can never hurt to start taking folic acid before trying to get pregnant. A lot can happen to a fetus before you even know it's there.

PS- I hate the word fetus and can't even believe I just used it twice...

My doctor gave me prenatal vitamins to take before I got pregnant. I took them when I remembered. I could not take them during either pregnancy though. They made me sick. I took 2 chewable Flinstones vitamins instead at my doc's suggestion.

I got a flu shot with my first pregnancy, but not with the second. I'm not sure what immunizations you're referring to, but those are the only ones I ever got.

Well, I did take Lupron injections for my endometriosis so I could get pregnant.
